Mr. and Mrs. Bill Straus and Uttle
son Wayne, returned home last week
after an absence of two months, dur
ing which time Mr. Straus was em
ployed tn the Klamath county har
vest fields.
October 11 was teachers reception
night when patrons of the school
district met with the teachers at
the auditorium and enjoyed a social
evening of parlor games and con
versation. The different work of the rooms
was examined by the parents and
teachers complimented on the attrac
tive decorations. Refreshments of pie
and coffee were served.
Friends from Table Rock, Antloch,
and Rogue River enjoyed the serv
ices and basket dinner given by the
Sunday school members Sunday. A
handkerchief shower was given Mrs.
O. L. Davis of Table Rock In remem
brances of her past services as Bible
class teacher.
Friends of L. M. Fisher of Central
Point and son BUI, of New York,
extend their sincere sympathy to
them In the loss of a loving wife
and mother, Mrs. Fisher, who passed
away October 15, after a few weeks
Illness. Mrs. Fisher had been a resi
dent of this community for more
than 20 years, up until the recent
sale or their property here, and had
many friends who deeply regret her
passing. Both father and son were
constantly at her bedside at the
Sacred Heart hospital until death
came. The son. whom the parents
had Just recently visited at New
York, learned of his mother's Illness
and arrived by plane to be with her.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tonn of Cen
tral Point visited Bams Valley home
folks Sunday.
A touchdown game with football
was played Thursday between the
local high school boys and the Gold
Hill boys that ended In a no score
tie.

Upper Rogue Grange held regular
bi-monthly meeting, October 17 at
Rogue Elk. It la hoped that arrange
ments may be made to rent the
Rogue Elk hall for the winter. The
Upper Rogue Grange is homeless at
present. About ten new . members
were given the first and second de
grees at the last meeting and efforts
are being made to have a member
ship of 100 by January 1.
At 3:00 o'clock Sunday, at Sunst
on-the -Rogue, the Upper Rogue
Grange entertained with a dinner In
honor of Mr, and Mra, E. D. Hong
who are leaving for Corvallls to
spend the winter with their son,

at the Presbyterian church, starting
at 10 a. m. This Is the first program
on Buymanshtp conducted by Mrs.
W. A. Bricker, who has been given
special training on the subject. It
will be of great benefit to every wo
man In the community. All ladles

covered dish for luncheon, and
plan to attend every meeting this
year.

munity, began evangelistic meetings
at the Reese Creek school house on
October 30 with a fine sermon. The
young people have Been practicing
for the choir with Mrs. Powell as
leader nd Mts Alice Ruttencutter
as pianist. Mr. Powell preached -both
morning and evening. A goodly
number came from Shady Cove In
the evening. He will hold meetings
every night this. week. All are wel
come. There will be a special musi
cal each night. '
Little Lclloy Gardner hurt his knee
on the giant stride at school two
weeks ago. Blood poisoning set In
and he suffered badly with It for
several days but Is much Improved
now and will be back In school
soon.

October 18, the Home and School
Council society, had their monthly
business snd social get-together, at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Powell, with a covered dish luncheon
at noon. This waa the first social
meeting of the school year. After
the bountiful meal and the business
session, some very clever games and
stunt were enjoyed by those present.

State-District conference held
at Central Point. October 17, drew 388
Grangers from all parts of the county.
The morning session consisted of
conferences of secretaries, masters,
lecturers, home economics commit
tees, agricultural committees. Orange

State Orange representatives. These

Three Oranges entered tha competi
tive subordinate Orange officers' seat
ing drill, Sams Valley, Live Oak and
Bellvlew. All of the drills were very
good and the awards went aa follows:
Sams Valley, first, awarded 85 from
State Orange and 86 from Jackson
County Pomona, total 811,
Bellvlew, second, awarded ' 13 RO from
State Orange and 88 from Pomona
Orange, total 87.80.
Live Oak. third, awarded 84 from
