The pears are being sent to the
noted columnist by Oordon Oreen,
manager of American Fruit Grow
ers, Inc. With the box of the
prize fruit of the Rogue valley will
go a note from Mr. Oreen and also
one from the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce, calling; Mr.
Mclntyre'a attention to the lusci
ous quality of the Oregon pears.
The Chamber of Commerce 1 also
sending several pear recipes to Mr.
Mclntyre"a hotel. .

"This Scripture exhorts to ft re
membrance of our Creator In the day
of youth.
Youth should remember ood for
what He Is. He Is our Creator: we
are Indebted to him for all. Ha la
able to make us wise unto salvation
by faith In Him.
"If you would save yourself from
the scourge of physical dissipation,
remember Ood while young. He who
does not remember Ood In - His
claims for redemption will remnmber
the fruits of unrighteousness forever,

SALEM, Sept. 34. (AP) A pre
llmlnary Initiative petition was (lied
with the secretary of state today
for the creation and operation of a
state bank, and a ballot title was
requested. Initiative petitions require
signatures of more than 18.000 voters
before it can be - placed on the
ballot.
The measure proposed la similar
to the senate bill 111 Introduced
during the last session by 1 Peter
Zimmermen, but which failed to
pass. Sponsors of the Initiative are
the state Orange and the State Fed
eration of Labor.
Under tbe act a state bank would
be created for a depository of all
public funds. It would be In charge
of a board of directors composed
of the atate treasurer as chairman,
the governor, secretary of state, at
torney general and the labor com
missioner. The b,oard would select
a manager for tbe bank. .

John Bonor Phoenix district chicken
raiser, reported to city police that
Saturday night someone stole 65 of
his flock of 100 fine chickens.
Bonor told police that he was away
from home all day, and when he re
turned he found the chickens gone.
Police are working on the theory that
the thief or thieves are probably
transporting the birds to a large mar
ket, and a close check Is being made.

today by Capt. Carl Y. Tengwald.
As Sunday's practice is an Import
ant detail, Captain Tengwald urged
every member of the organization to
be present. Firing will start promptly

at the ranges throughout the day, the
