AMERICA'S PERIL
Bpaking Sunday night on "Chris
tianity and the Indmtlal Motive" at
tht church of the Naznrene, Rer.
Fred M. Weatherford ald In part:
"There are three philosophic, of
We that come to our thinking In
entering the realm of possession
and atltudes sustained toward them.
The first one Is the racketeer.-
philosophy what la yours is mine
and I'll take It. The second belongs
j mo prom making motive what
la mine I own and 1 11 keep It. Th
third cornea from the Christ-sharing
motive what la mine la yours and
1 11 share It.
"Society cannot long ellst with
the predominance of the selflsli
profit motive. There must be a sub
ordination of the profit to the ser
vice motive throughout our Indus
trial lire, or the cry of human suf
fering and oppression will be heard
from the stamp of anemic faces.
"Our nation emerged supposedly
from the thralldom of silvery In
the 60s and capitalism w.ll stand
condemned when It Imposes servi
tude upon Its employes without
sharing a reasonable amount of a
reasonable profit.
"Capitalism has divorced itself
from the spirit of religion by leav
ing It In the cathedral. Until ther
la a turn to the Christianized deals
that formed the democracy for which
our fathers died, our civilization will
destroy itself by the unchristian
and Inhuman selfish avarice for
gain. Capitalism must be remotl
vated on the basis of equity If It la
to have a permanent revival.
"The top speed driving of cspl
tallsm that brought on our collosai
economlo breakdown Is flagged down
today by the common bread-winner
for a relnstltutlon of the principles
of equity and Justice. The new world
csnnot be rebuilt upon the poverty
of the many, and the absurd cruel
wealth of the few.
"We cannot turn to communism
ss a solution for our escape and
future progress. Russians have no
government of their own. The frulu
of communism are bloodshed a-d
bitter poverty, with the setup oi a
bureaucracy that has completely de
stroyed the liberties of her p-ople.
She is defiant in her destructive sen
timents against Qod and the churcn.
"It in a pertinent question for
us to ash ourselves in America
shall we save communism or Chris
tianity? If we are to save Christian
ity, an unprecedented process of
Chrlsttanlzatlon must be Instituted.
Capitalism must be one of her first
converts. The workman laboring
under equitable end sharing condl
tlona will receive Ood Into his Ufa
more readily than he who nurses
bitterness from a sense of Injustice.
"We need the dawning of a day
when Christian ' principles shall be
so dominant In life that righteous
ness and Justice shall be the nil
of business administration.
