tabulated today by C. C. Hockley, act
inc state director of PWA.
He will weed out soma of the re
mwsts and send the remainder to
Washington by airmail for considera
tion of the national emergency board
before the deadline September 12.
Hockley would make no estimate of
Oregon's ultimate share In federal
funds, but Indicated that the re
quests far exceeded in total Oregon's
expected share.
Many Have Chance
Among the 147 requested projects,
however, Hockley pointed out. were
51 schools, 31 water systems and 15
sewers. The great majority of these
have a good chance of obtaining
funds, unless ruled out by Inability
to n'ucot required conditions such as
man-hours and time for construction.
Hockley said.
Requests include 91,575.000 grant
for a new state houac and 9315,000
grant to purchase a site.
Portland asked 95.000.000 loan for a
street railway system and 06.200,000
loan and grant for a sewer system.
State highway officials seek 200.
000 grant.
Other requests include:

nlpbt approved a lease for transfer of
the municipal airport to the federal
government.
Transfer of the airport to the fed
eral government through a lease, re
newable from year to year. Is based
on the federal government's agree
ment to pay the city 25 per month
for the use of the property. It Is ex
pected that the airport will be Im
proved by the construction of a cul
vert across the creelt which Intersects
the field, thereby doubling the length
of the runway.
