Man Mountain Dean, the kingpin
of the wrestling world, was shuffl
ing the streets of Medford In all his
bewhlskered glory over the week
end, talking over the wrestling game
with Promoter Mack LiUard between
the irritating advances of admirers,
autograph seekeri and interviewers.
The famoua exponent of the "fall
ing tree" hold spent moat of hla time
trying to satisfy curious Medfordltes
who wanted to take advantage of the
opportunity of looking at the largest
piece of wrestler In the world. He
came here by airplane Saturday
night 'or the express purpose, how
ever, of visiting Frank C. Doremus
of Big Boulder Orchard, whose father
and Dean are great friends at Santa
Barbara.
Air travel n decidedly nothing new
to the 320-pound matman. for last
week he broke the world's record
for air 'mileage among wrestlera
when his total reached one million
miles. He took the record from Ed
"Strangler" Lewis, whose record waa
800.000, also passing, up the Im
pressive flying marks set by Gue
Sonnenberg and Joe Bavoldt.
While here Detn breakfasted with
Promoter Ullard and tentatively
agreed to sign up for a bout here
before winter. If Dean should ap
pear, the Armory could not pos
sibly hold all the ticket buyers, as
Dean has a habit of drawing great
crowds. He had four straight sell
outa in the Olympic stadium at
Los Angeles, with 15,000 people at

Dean announced that he may quit
wrestling soon to go Into pictures
(he Is signed to do a picture with
Joe E, Brown and a series of Hal
Roach comedies in the Immediate
future! but however successful on
the screen, the Man Mountain can

where W. C. Fields is being shown
in "Man on the Flying Trapeze."
Indicative of Med ford 'a desire for
comedy of the "belly laugh" variety,
capacity crowd the largest the Ri

theater, matinee and evening, to set
a new high for attendance figures.
With his particular gift (or comedy
given full play. Fields kept the audi
ence in constant uproar, carrying the
picture from one hilarious situation
into another, pausing only occasion
ally In his monkeyshlnea to all ow the
audience to catch it breath, and a
moment later sending it off again Into
pales of laughter with the buffoonery
for which he haa so definite a fla:r.
The fact that Fields himself, under
the name of Charles Bogle, waa co
author with Sam Hardy another
