CCC's lo Celeehrate Labor day will
be celebrated In the camps of Med
ford CCC district, and all the camps
will have a special dinner or some
other form of celebration, according
to district headquarters. All members
will be excused from work except
those detailed for camp police and
necessary emergency work. Many of
the enrollees are planning to partici
pate In community celebrations on
the day of rest and recreation.

and Mrs. E. E. Kelly that their son
and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs.
Edward C. Kelly of Portland, ara the
parents of a son born Aug. 30. He has
been named Edward James. Mrs. Kel
ly Is the former Mary Grelner, who haa
formerly with the Mall Tribune and
has since been prominent in news
paper work at Washington. D. C,
whence Mr. Kelly wa recently trans
ferred to Portland to be PWA adviser
for Oregon. Edward James has a

Bowman Out of Danger Joseph T.
Bowman. CCC enrollee at Camp An
nie Springs, who sustained a frac
tured skull when he fell from a for
st service truck near Crater lake, Is
believed out of danger, according to
a report from the Sacred Heart hos
pital, where he haa been a patient.

jured yesterday morning about 0
O'clock, when struck by a car driven
by Joseph J. O'Hara of San Dtego.
about three miles south of Trail, ac
cording to a report made to city
police by O'Hara. She was crossing
tha highway on foot, and emerged
from behind a parked mail truck Just
as the O'Hara machine came by, he
said.
Although her condition was not
thought to be serious, she received a
contusion of the scalp, and abrasions
and bruises on the elbow and the
heel.

SUSPECTED THIEF
JAILED HERE HAS

Wllllard Howell Garner, now being
held in the county Jail for the federal
grand Jury In Portland, on a charge
of violation of the Dyer act in trans
porting a stolen auto across the state
line, haa a long criminal record, ac
cording to word received here yes
terday by state and city police from
the department of criminal investi
gation of California.
According to the bulletin, Garner
has been known at various times as
Wlllard Howell Garner. Bill Garner,
and Edward Herbert Peseley. the
name that he gave when first ar
rested here on August 29. The rec
ord shows that he was arrested In
Pittsburgh, Penn., aa a suspicious
character, in 1925. On March 38.
1926, he was arrested in Columbus,
Ohio, on a charge of bribery, and
compounding a felony. He was held
for the grand Jury and given 90 days
In the workhouse on the first
charge, and given a fine of 300 and
costs on the second. He escaped from
the workhouse on August 26, 1926,
! the report states.
I He was later arrested In Colum
1 bus again for auto theft, and fo:
ithe escape. He appeared before the
grand Jury, was given a fine of fl00
on the auto theft charge and ordered
to the workhouse ngnln for six
I months on the escape charge.
He was arrested the next time tn
Washington. D. C, in July of 1932,
and sent to the asylum and Jail on 1
an assault charge, for 45 days, and
given a fine of 950. tn December of
the same year he again ran afoul of
the Washington authorities, on a
charge of assault and an attempt to
commit rape.
In 1033 he was picked up for in
vestigation at Springfield, III., aa a
suspicious character In connection
with bad check writing, and later
In the year he was nabbed by coast
authorities at Sacramento, on a grand
auto theft charge. He later spent 1 woman denied. Both were
three months In the county Jail on after Investigation.

On Ju.iu-iry 1st of this rear
waa arrested in Reno. Nev., on a
counterfeit charge, and served time
in the county Jail. It was only June
12 until he was again In trouble,
when he wns picked up for grand
theft In Sacramento, but the case
waa dismissed.
When arrested here he waa accom
panied by two women, one of whom
he claimed to be his wife. This the
