A tried by a bit of Oakland strategy

Pacific Coast league today but It
was a narrow and uncomfortable
perch.
Close upon their heels, the farthest
Dnly two and a half games behind,
were four other teams, all mathema
tically capable of reaching the lead
rahlp In three days of play. Nearest
were the San Francisco Missions, only
two percentage points In the rear,
and the Portland Ducks, half a game
way.
The Seala gained the top spot yes
terday by beating the Oaks. 6 to 5.
while the Missions were losing to
Seattle. The winning run was scored
In the last half of the ninth, arter
lea Powers tripled and Ken Dmiglai,
Oak hurler, deliberately walked Joe
Plmagglo and Joe Marty.
Hank McDonald relieved Douglas,
but apparently he had caught the
habit, for he walked Steve Barath,
forcing In the final tally.
Dick Barrett, Seattle pitcher, shut
out the Missions with six hits as the
Indiana pounded Otfti Nltcholas for
an 8-0 victory which bounced the
erstwhile leaders Into second place.
Portland clung close to the top
with a handy 6-1 defeat of the last
place Hollywood stars, while Los An
geles wss forced to go 13 Innings be
fore beating Sacramento. 4 to 3.
The Boston Red Sox were 38.0(H)
customers behind their 1934 home
schedule attendance at the halfway
mark this year, but expected to
puM better than even before the

For some time thla cnpnble, speedy
leg-hold specialist has been eyed by
the fans aa one of the beat all-round
mat men In circulation, and whenever
he haa been lined up for wrestling
matches at the Armory, the betting
odds have stacked up decidedly In hla
favor. Recently, however, Hubka haa
not looked so good.
In last week's match with Ai Ka-
raslck he never once hit his usual
fast stride, but Instead seemed to loaf
through the mytch at half speed, lie
usually resembles a ateamed-up loco
motive going down grade. In a recent
match at Portlnnd he lost to Danny
Savlch, highly-touted wrestler from
Salt Lake City, which Is iIm deemed
unusual, although the University of
Utah star Is no slouch.
When Hubka meets Savlch tomor
row night at the Armory, however,
the Comhusker clalma he will tear
In with all the old time vim and
effort to offset the Portland defeat
and reinstate himself with the local
"rawlln" fraternity. The outcome will
probably be nothing ahort of a grudge
match.
In the other half of the main event
Pete Belcustro, the Weed Avalanche,
will meet Toot Estes, champion of
the Hawaiian Islands. Russ Riley ot
New Mexico will meet Roland Warren
of Klamath Falls In the opener.

will wear a color scheme of gold and
silver. Helmets and Jerseys are gold
colored with black numerals, back
and front.
The pants are sliver hued and the
socks gold and silver striped. The pro
fessionals will wear their regular
comoination or white Jerseys and
socks and brown pants.
A new lighting system 100 thous
and watt lamps has been Installed,
an Improvement of about 40 per cent
over the old one. I

The hop yards are an Imposing
sight at this time of year. The Clute
yards are reached by driving down
