HONOLULU. Aug. 13. The pan

at 6:08 a. m. today (8:38 a. m. Pacific
Standard time). Eight men and 8.000
pounds of cargo were aboard.
With hardly a breath of wind In
the Pearl harbor channel, the clipper
required two runs to get off the
water.
The first run started at 8 a.m., but
Captain R. O. D. Sullivan halted the
plane when she failed to lift readily
and turned back.
On the second start the big plane
roared off perfectly. Ths weather here
was clear.

SAVES GASOLINE
Establishment of an Associated
Motor Check station which provides
an entirely new service for local mo
torists, enabling them to get greater
performance out of the cars, was an
nounced today by Carrol Hays, local
agent for the Associated Oil com
pany. The new Motor Check station Is op
erated by Wltham's Magnet & Parts
Co. at Eighth and Riverside.
Purpose of the motor cheek station
is to tune up motors and adjust
spark and carburetor for the use of
Associated aviation ethyl gasoline. In
order that motorists may enjoy maxi
mum power and performance which
car manufacturers have built Into
modern automobiles. The latest type
of equipment has been Installed hers
for this work.
This Is one of more than 100 Motor
Check stations opened on the Pacific
coast in connection with introduction
of Associated Oil company's new avi
ation ethyl gasoline. The first true
aviation gasoline to be adapted for
regular highway use, it Is claimed.
Testa made by manufacturers show
that practically all recent model cars
with their higher compression motors,
greater horsepower and faster driving
speeds require Ethyl gasoline for
maximum performance, Mr. Hays de
clared. As a matter of fact, the for
mal factory adjustment is for Ettyl
gasoline and the spark has to be set
j back for the use of regular gasoline.
resulting in a loss of as much as 15
per cent In power, he said.
Local motrlsts are Invited to have
ths spark and carburetor on their
cars properly adjusted at the Asso
clted Motor Check station.
