Jacksonville last Tuesday afternoon,
after spending two months In Eagle
Point with her daughter, Mrs. O.

Donald Ashpole left July 39 In
company with hla uncle, O. W. Ash
pole, of Medford, and driving for
him, for Burns, Ore,, to meet Mrs.
O. W. Ashpole, who came to Burns
from Blgby, Idaho, where she had
been visiting with her parents and
other relatives for the past two
months. They returned to Medford
Tuesday.
Mrs. Roy Stanley of Eagle Point,
assisted by Mrs. OrvlUe Henderson,
entertained Thursday afternoon at
the Btiinley ranch from 3:00 to 6:00,
honoring her house guest, Mrs. Mae
Ross Walker, prominent musician
and club woman of Portland. En
tertainment consisted of musical
game, naming the titles of old songs
as a few bars were played on the
piano. Miss Oraos Holman and Mrs.
Lottie VanScoy tied tor first prize
and Mra. Roy Ashpole and Mra. Wm.
Holman tied for second prise. Mrs.
Walker gave a short talk on the
results of concerted efforts of club
groups, citing several Interesting
events In which club women have
taken the Initiative. Some eighteen
guests enjoyed the hospitality of
the hostesses.
Friends of Mrs. "Jack" Hay will
regret to learn that she Is a patient
st the Community hospital In Med
ford. having undergone a serious
operation July 31.

Henry "Midget" Fernekes, 38. dim
inutive quick-shooting gunman ac
cused of at leant five murders and
a dozen bank robberies, was miss
ing from his cell in the state pen
itentiary today. Officials said he
apparently had escaped by donning
clvllan clothing and walking past
the guards as a visitor.
Fernekes was serving s 10 year
to life sentence for the robbery ol
the Inland Trust and Bavlngs bank
in Chicago.
The gunman, who was given the
name "Midget" because of his size
he was five feet three Inches tali
and weighed 140 pounds was missed
during a daily check of prisoners

spiracy charges In connection with
the asserted bilking of matrimonial
prospects. As "Evangeline Moors,"
according to post office Inspectors,
Miss Claudette corresponded with
men whose names she obtained
from matrimonial publications and
requested money for fare to their
homes "to talk over marriage."
