KEMMERER, Wyo., July 25. (AP)
Service was back to normal today
on th Union Pacific railroad, with
trains being routed over detour
tracks around the spot where a new
streamlined train was derailed late
yesterday.
Meanwhile crews worked to repair
the coaches damaged, when they lait
the tracks and were dragged nearly
three-quarters of a mile.
The 75 persons aboard the train,
fThe City of Portland," all escaped
injury and none of the cars over
turned. The mishap occurred at Mlgget
Canon, 17 miles west of Kemmerer,
and the four middle coaches of the
seven-car train left the tracks.
Railroad officials were Investigat
ing the cause, but declined to com
ment on their findings. Other em
ployes were quoted as saying that
a broken axle apparently waa re
sponsible for the derailment.
The train was en route from Chi
cago to Portland, Ore-, but had not
yet been placed on regular run.

FOR FLOOD RELIEF
NANKING, China, July 35. (JPi
Urgent appeals for ' relief descended
on the national government today
from thousands of destitute flood
refugees in central and north China,
facing death unless aid was forth
coming Immediately,
Governor Chang Chung of Hupeh,
hardest hit of all the Yangtze river
provinces, reported that two-third
of his province or 48,000 square mile.,

' Plagues and banditry added to the
woes of that province of 38,000.000
people.
Although semi-official quarters es
timated Hupeh's dead at 300,000, for
eign relief workers discounted this es
timate, asserting this figure probauly
would cover the loss of life In the
entire Yangtze river valley.
