HOLLYWOOD. July 20. fAP It
may be "good publicity" for them In
Instances, but If film stars charged
for the time they give In addressing
civic and other organizations their
hills would total several hundred
thou wind dollars a year.
Will Rogers Is the most coveted
favorite, and one of the most gen
erous In this respect. Figuring four
pictures a year at $125,000 each and
about 5100.000 from his syndicated
writings, he has an Income of about
RO0.00O annually.
This would make his time worth
a little better than $205 an hour. So
when he accepts an Invitation to
speak before a convention he Is giv
ing It an expensive present.
Another star generous of his time
Is Francis Leclerer. who will address
nearly any worthy organization on
his pet subjects of world peace and
humanity Interests generally.
It Is estimated he thus gives be
tween $25,000 and $30,000 a year.
Nancy Carroll, free-lanca motion picture star from Hollywood, points
out to her daughter. Patricia, the significance of the various license plates
on the 2,000,000th Ford V-8 on display in the Ford Exposition building
patio, Balboa Park, San Diego. Mias Carroll was recently co-itarred
with Jack Benny in 'Trans-Atlantic Merry Go Round" made by Reliance
Pictures.
Perhaps the most frequently asked
question about the 2,000,000th Ford
V-8 which arrived at the Ford Ex
oosition, San Diego, from Dearborn,
Mich., is: "What is the significance
rf the 1936 license for Huntsville,
Texas?"
Jim Rooney, driver of the fam
ous car, explains the license by tili
ng how it was attached to the car.
"The Huntsville, Texas, 1936 li
cense was presented to the 2,000,
XfOth V-8 by Lee Simmons, director
f the Texas Prison system, because
Texas licenses are made by state
irisoners. Mr. Simmons took us
wt to the home of Sam Houston,
vhich is one of the historic build
ngs in Huntsville and in the grounds
)f which probably no other auto
nobile has even been.
"We drove around the site and
had numerous pictures made of the
V-8 and it was explained to us that
the building would prohably be
used as the background for Texas
plates next year when the Dallas
Exposition will be in progress. Mr.
Simmons then presented us with
the first 1936 automobile license,
which was hurriedly made without
any number.
"The other Texas license on the
2.000,00th V-8 was made from two
plates because the regular size
plate was too small for the figures.
"These 2.000,000 licenses were pre
sented by the various states as the
car progressed along its route be
tween Dearborn and San Diego.
Others are expected to be added
as soon as the missing states can
make and shiD them."
since he supports an office staff ex
clusively for this purpose.
Joe E. Brown frequently appears at
public functions, his chief Interest
being in charity and sports.
Eddie Cantor will work himself to
a frazzle for charity functions.

By Cyril Sander
The Nash Motor company has Just
announced their 1936 LaFayette. We
believe that this Is the first '36 car
to be announced and It has shown
a trend to more streamlines and a
good deal more comfort. This car
has very attractive lines which are
somewhat similar to the new Nash's
with the exception of the different
hood. This Is the first LaFayette to
ever use an all steel body or hyd
raulic brakes. The body also has the
all steel top which Is rapidly becom
ing the fad. The roominess of the
car Is very unusual, considering that
It Is really a small car. For Instance
the seats are much wider than pre
viously and the head and leg room
has been materially Increased. All of
the sedan models are equipped with
a large baggage compartment which
Is always convenient. These sedans
may also be had with an outside
trunk which gives additional luggage
space and at the same time it con
ceals the spare tire and wheel. There
are really three entirely different body
models, the coupe, the four door se
dan and the two door sedan. How
ever, the coupe comes either with
or without a rumble seat and the
sedans with or without the exterior
trnnk which makes more of a variety
of models.
These new cars have an 83 horse
power engine and synchronized
springing. The synchronised spring
ing along with the mtd-sectlon seat
ing and balanced weight contributes
to a new and better ride than ever
before. Some other features of the
car are Its 7-bearlng crankshaft,
rifle-bored connecting rods and alum
inum pistons. The local dealer.

"IF I HAD KNOWN A FORD V-8 WAS LIKE THIS,
I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE MONTHS AGO"
"It was a big surprise to me this Ford V-8. I'd
seen it on the road and heard some mighty fine
things about it. But there was still a little doubt
in my mind. I just couldn't believe a low-price
car could be as good as that
'"Forget about price, a frirnd of mine said.
'Things move fast in the automobile business
and the Ford has stepped way out ahead. Look it
over carefully and you'll see that it's different
from every other low-price car. It's a new kind
of car for Ford and for the whole automobile
Industry.
"So I decided to do the job right. I went over
the Ford from bumper to bumper studied every
feature took it out on the road and put it through
every test I knew. Took my wife along, too, to get
her views. And say if you think I'm enthusiastic
you ought to talk to her! In every way, the
Ford V-8 is far beyond our expectations.".
Many other motorists men and women
have said the same thing about the Ford V-8
"it is far beyond our expectations."
We'd like to have you drive it and see for
yourself. Many distinctive features put the Ford
V-8 in a class by itself in performance, comfort,
