Kitherlne Hepburn steps from per
iod pictures and definite type char
acterization to modern romance in
"Break of Hearts," starting today at
the Craterian. The new production
presents the star as a girl of today
who wears fashionable gowns that ore
aa new as tomorrow. It also presents
her with a co-star ss leading man,
Charles Boyer. John Beal. Miss Hep
burn's leading man In "The Little
Minister." siln appears with her.
This time, however, he is the third
figure in a romantic triangle.
"Break of Hearts" concerns a strug
gling young composer and an emi
nent symphony orchestra conductor
and their efforts to cling to love
which la put to a most severe test
Brought together by their mutual
delight in music, they feel that they
can shut out the world and always
be alone together In their hearts. But
the world will not be excluded, and
the demands of fame exact their In
evitable penalty.
Aa an added attraction that will
appeal to the ladles, the picture
shows Hepburn wearing gorgeous new
fsshlon creations, especially designed
for her by Bernard Newman, whose
"Roberta" creations are still talked
about.

NATION IN RED'
OVER 3 BILLIONS
END FISCAL YEAR
WASHINGTON, June 30. (AP
After collecting 52 cents for every
dollars spent, the treasury today
closed Its books upon tne fiscal year
with a deficit of nearly $3,30.000,- !
ooo.
With two days' tranaactlons still to
be reported in detail, expenditures
exceeded revenues by 3.473,000.000
as compared with fr3381.000.000 for
all but two days of the fiscal year of
1034. The decrease In the size of the
deficit was dut to a jump In receipts
both above last year and official es
tlates. and less-than-planned spend
ing. Revenues totaled 3,785,000,000
as compared with $3i88.000.000 lest
year, and budget bureau estimates of
S3.711.000.00O.
On a basis of cents collected for
dollars spent, this year showed an In
crease of 8 cents. Last year that
figure was 44 cents collected for each
dollar expended.
The cost of running the govern
mental departments, termed "general"
expenditures by the treasury as dis
tinguished from emergency outlays,
fell within revenues, a point which
administration spokesmen repeatedly
have emphasized.
This was true regardless of the fact
that during the year, expenditures
through the agricultural adjustment
administration, previously classified
aa emergency, were shifted to the
"general" category. These aggregated
$558,000,000.
Without including the AAA dis
bursements. President Roosevelt had
estimated general expenditures at 93,
323.000,000. They were 87.703,000.000.
Deducting the AAA. the actual expen
ditures were less than the estimates.
