WASHINGTON. D. C June .
Simple rulei of caution, carefully
followed, will greatly Inereasa the
pleasure and benefit of summer rec
reation, the American Automobile a
sociatton declared today. The na
tional motor! n ? body outlined a
health and safety code for motor va
cationists as follows:
When Driving
Don't drive for too long a period
at one time. Take rest intervals in
order to avoid the fatigue that is
responsible for so many automobile
accidents. Maintain a steady driving
pace and avoid spurts of driving at
high speeds.
Don't stare ahead. Get your eyes
arcuRtomed to an easy restful posi
tion to avoid eye strain.
Don't grip the wheel tightly and
hold the body tense. Tenseness pro
duces nervousness and may cause the
driver to lose his head In case of
a crisis. Learn to be attentive and
yet be relaxed at the wheel.
Don't slump in the seat. Sliding
down and "sitting" on the backbone
throwa the weight of the body on
the hip bones and causes the back
to become tired and ache.
Don't strain the legs to reach the
accelerator or brakes. If adjustable
seats are not provided, have the foot
pedal adjusted to a comfortable po
sition, or use a sufficiently thick
cushion at the back.
Vacation Foods
Don't overeat when driving or at
the vacation objective. It is better
to eat sparingly in hot weather. The
vacation diet should include fruit
juices and plenty of water. The water
should be chilled but not tee cold.
Don't drink from wayside streams
r wells unless they are marked "safe"
by health authorities or unless the
water is boiled.
Don't eat food kept too long with
out refrigeration. If there is any
question of Its being spoiled, throw
it away rather than run the risk of
ptomaine poison.
Don't eat mushroms picked in the
open. Only experts can distinguish
the non-poisonous type, and serious
results will follow an error.
At the Shore
Don't swim when overheated, and
don't go in the water for an hour
or so after eating. If the water is
very cold It is advisable to splash
water over the head and shoulders
I before diving in to minimize the
shock.
Don't dive until sure of the depth
of the water, and don't go in the
water alone.
Don't expose yourself to long to
the sun's rays. The result may be
quite painful and even serious.
When Hiking or Picnicking
Don't minimise the effect of con
tact with poison ivy, poison oak or
poison sumac. If you brush against
these, wash exposed parts carefully
and use recommended remedies. In
serious cases, conult a phyician.

Thrashing through te brush of tim

federal, state and military, have fill

came to light May 23 when their

FVarged checks appeared bearing the
names of the missing party. Mr, and
Mrs. Oeonze Lorius and Mr. and Mrs
Albert Heberer. They were cashed by
a youth with an arm distinctively
tattooed.
The youth was believed by detec

middle-aged Illinois visitors last were
heard from when they mailed post
cards at Vaughn, K. M . the night of
May 31 or early May 33.

bftchlor, Gov, Gen. ?Yank Murphy,
held In hi hands today the ballot
rights of probably more than 300.000
Filipino women, many of whom
wondered whether their first march
to the polls just x weeks ago would
b their last real exercise of that
civil power.
The matter in question was a oiU
pased & few days ago by the insular
legislature limiting votimt In the
forthcoming presidential election - to
malea. In effect it repealed an act
giving women the ballot, which they
used for the first time May lb in
voting to ratify the new commnn
wealth constitution.
Whether Murphy would sien or
veto the new measure was ft matter
of wide speculation. The suffragists
pinned their hopes for veto on
statement by the governor general
!n which he said:
"Yoa may be sure If ther !s any
thing I can do to retain the vote
for women I will do so, 1 am con
vinced the women have a salutary
effect on Filipino politic."

Does the National Education associa

: in hotel lobbies and other public
places?
Dr. Henry Lester Smith, aimii and
genial president chuckled today at
the question.
"The association never has aald
anything about It, one way or an
other," ha said. "The matter just
i never has ceome up at any of our
conventions,
Willard E. Givens ol Waahinston,
secretary of the N. E. A., agreed with
Dr. Smith but added:
"It's pretty certsin a great many
teachers smoke in the privacy of their
rooms. We consider that a matter of
i individual liberty."
j The association is meeting in Den
ver for the first time since 18S5.
This list week ws h-id the pleasure i
of seeing the only Custom Imperial
Chrysler Airflow m Oregon that I
mounted on the 14S ineh wheel!..
This particular car was the iS34 mod
el but it had bees brought up to
date by the new 35 hood tbat has
been fitted to it. The ear sells for
around 5,0OS t the factory, and they
aurely give you 5.0i0 worth of size.
The wheel base of this ear is abjut
Ion? as any stock ear in the United
States nd we are sure that the aeita
are wider than those of any other ear :
in the world- In fact we believe that
four people could be put In eitheT the
front or rear est without very much
crowding. There are also two auxil
iary seat for additional passengers.
Of course this ear baa a wry com
plete set of equipment. This equip
ment include tout &m tight, two
floor light on each aide and at the
base of the rear seat, draft free ven
tilation, safety glass throughout, two
sun vlsora, two automatic windshield
wipers, thre cigar lighters, four ah
receivers, and an Interior luggsge
compartment! Beside this there i
good deal of other fundamental
equipment such as bumpers front and
rear, rear wheel shields, spring cover,
spar tire, tube, and metal tint cover,
over-drive, double-acting hydraulic
shock absorbers ftesbeam headlights,
parking: lights in combination with
the head lifiht. two combination stop
and tail light, dual trumpet horns,
two top cowl ventilators, and a
curved windshield, And, believe it or
not on the first aerie of these car
more equipment than thl wa in
cluded. The eight passenger limou
sine mode! of the first aeries Includ
ed, besides what I have mentioned
above, a dictaphone for communica
tion with the driver, completely
equipped vanity desk on one aide and
a writing desk on the other with a
platinum clock In between! We are
aura everyon will agree that these
ear at least had ample equipment.
One feature on these car which
we have never seen or heard of before
is the curved windshield. Thus u not
a V-type windshield and it ia not di
vided by any metal atrips. It la a
elean one-piece curved windshield.
There are no obstructions on it what
soever, and we believe it U the most
beautiful windshield we have ever
seen. It gives a very large unobstruct
ed view of everything before and we
are aura it would be a decided asset
In driving. Another Interior res Us re
which attracted our attention waa the
dash board. It la also a complete!?

which contains lven buttons, w
