farming on his ranch near this city.
Mr. Andrews, after many years In
southern Oregon where occasional
appearances on the stage met with
acclaim from local opera lovers, re
cently returned to Minneapolis, Minn.
where his flrat company played the
old Pence Opera house nearly a half
century ago, and according to
clipping from the Minneapolis Jour
nal received here today he will direct
two of the eight operas the Twin City
Civic Opera Association will present
from June at to August 10 at Lake
Harriet.
He has been living for some time
with hie daughter, Caroline, an opera
singer, at New York City.
The operas he will direct at Lake
Harriet will be Pinafore and Mikado.
He has played the part of Koko In
Mikado more than 3,600 times, has
played all ofthe Gilbert and Bulllvan
operas and the majority of Victor
Herbert's, and has a repertoire of
more than 40 parte.
Mr, Andrews began his opera ca
reer at the age of 14. ae a ballad
singer, In odd moments doubling; In
brass, a four octave melodlan hie
father purchased In 1868 which start
ed him on his muslo career now
stands In the state historical society
building In St. Paul.
After coming to Medford he toon
tired of farming and returned once
again to the road. He played In
practically every big city and small
town In America while touring for
SO years with the Andrews Opera
company.

173.000 In general obligation bonds
by the city or Salem at a 3 per
cent Interest rate, to a Portland
syndicate Including Camp Jt Co.,
Atkinson, Jones Ac Co., and Hemp
hill, Fenton & Campbell, Inc., was
announced here last night. The
bonds were sold to replace an equal
amount of 8 per cent Bancroft
bonds, at a premium ot 33.70 per
