realtors some time ago. when they
announced that it was extremely dif
ficult to auply the demand for small
farms, particularly those close to
Med ford or Ashland.
The farm population for the en
tire United States, according to fig
ures compiled by the Oregon State
Agricultural college, shows a net in
crease of 270.000 people during the
past year, bringing the total increase
since 1930 up to 2.600.000. In spite
of the increase of farm population,
however, the demand for hired help
this spring was strong and farm
wages ad va need nearly 1 0 per cen t
during the first quarter.
One of the most gratifying Increases
was in the poultry line, the QSCA
bulletin declares. Last year 11 per
cent fewer chickens were raised in
this country' than in 1933. but this
year 10 per cent more were regis
tered than In May of 1934. This is a
decidedly cheering sign, the bulletin
states, and may be taken as a bar
ometer In general farm production.
