Mrs. Wetmore said she saw vhe
faces of two persons at a window in
a house aa it rode down the swollen
torrent. Several autos rolled along on
the flood but It was not known
whether any persons had been caught
In them.

others menaced by flood waters, Miss
Betty Rogers of Orlando, Fla., and
two friends, were carried some dis
tances by the torrent, but were res
cued.
At least sixteen persons. Injured In
the flood, were reported . receiving
treatment In hospitals here last
night.
Little realizing the seriousness 6f
the flood, a group of ten men r wo
men and children climbed to the
roof of a garage to gain a better view
of tha torrent.
Then realising their danger, they
managed to climb Into nearby trees
and then to a rooftop, where police
and firemen rescued them.

Pan-Ameriean Airways' four motored
Clipper plane may pioneer the second

With the first round trip commer
cial flight of Alameda to Honolulu

scheduled to fly next to Midway
Islands, 1300 mile northwest of
Honolulu.

for another long distance hop. Me

series of short test and exploratory

Company officials would give no
official confirmation regarding start
ing date for the midway flight, ex
plaining that formal announcement
of the attempt probably would be
made In New York.

1 cup
6 large berries, cut Into slices
cup oranie Juice
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Sprig of fresh mint.
Slice the berries into the glsAs.
sprinkle with powdered sugar. Put
the sprig of mint on top of berries
and place a large, perfect berry on
top. Pour the Juice over all and
serve cold.
Strawberry-Hanana Salad.
1 salad
1 bnnsna
8 berries
2 tablespoona powdered sugar
2 tablespoons lemon Juice
Water cress.
Cut the bnnsna In fourths and re
move part of the center. Place halves
of strawberries along the center of
banana and arrange on dish aa
spokea with a whole berry for the
: center. Sprinkle with sugar and
lemon Juice. Arrange the water cresa
(or celery leaves and parsley! be-:
tween the sections of banana and
serve with fruit Juice or French
dressing.
Custard Jundae,

'i cup sugar
1 qt. milk (scalded)
teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla or lemon.
Bent egg slightly: add sugar, salt
and scalded milk. Strain and pour
Into buttered baking molds. Bake at
325 degrees until knife blade cuts
clean (about 3ft minutes). Wmnld
snd when cold, cover with sweetened
fresh berrie. Top with a teaspoon
of whipped cream and a bit Jf
orange marmalade.
. Ladles Salad.
1 helping
. 1 slice pineapple
'i cup strawberries (halved)
1 whole berry
1 tablespoon cream cheese
tj orange.
French dressing.
Arrnngc on lettuce leaf placing
pineapple ring first. Fill center with
softened cheese and plsc the whole
berry in the center of the cheese
Then arrange four sections of orange
around the cheese and the hslvr
of strawberries around tha orange
circle. Chill thoroughly and svr
with French dreasing.
Strawberry Chantllly.
1 box of ntrawberriea
2 egg white
8 tablespoona powdered sugar
1 tablespoon sherry flavoring.
Wash and stem berries, then cut
in halves and sprinkle with the
sugar. Chill thoroughly. Beat whiter
until stiff, then add 8 tablespoon.,
of powdered sugar and beat well.
Sprinkle sherry flavoring over ber
rlea and then mix them with the
beaten whites. Pile in parfsit glass
and serve very cold. Garnish with
a whole berfy. -
Strawberry Mallow.
20 marshmallow
1 tablespocn orange Juice
cup water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 clip crushed berrie
1 cup whipping cream.
Mix crushed berries with ugar
and Juice and let itand one-half
hour. Steam marshmallow and water
In double boiler, then add prepared
berries and pour into flat dish to
cool. When cold, and slightly stif
fened, combine very carefully with
cream which has been whipped until
6tiff. Pile In glasses and serve chilled.
