a drunken driving charge In Justice
court and sentenced to 30 days in
the county Jail and fined 100 and
costs. The Jail sentence was sus
pended and the cost paid In this case.

will take possession of the streets
of Medford. It will be an army mo
bilized In the cause of veteran wel
fare. Its attack on the generous
pocketbooks of Medford residents will
be in behalf of disabled veterans of
American wars, and of the widows
and orphana of America's war dead.
The 14th annual sale of Buddy
Poppies, sponsored throughout the
United States by the Veterans of I
Foreign WarB of the United States
will be conducted here by Crater
Lake post, 1833. O. E. Hukill is
sales chairman, assisted by members
of the 1036 poppy committee, of
which Lillian Hukill Is chairman.
Each flower on sale will bear a
small green label designating It as
a genuine Buddy Poppy. Workers will
also wear credentials. The local sale
Is held, as Is customary. In con
junction with the approach of Mem
orial day. Similarly. approximately
3000 V. F. W. posts through the
United States are sponsoring Buddy
Poppy sales this month. The activity
Is the organization's principal means
of obtaining funds for Its welfme
and relief work.
The Buddy Popples sold here this
year are made In the Roseburg Vete
ran's hospital.

miles south of Midway and 4.000
miles from the Pacific coast.
She had pulled out of a flight for
mation to call nearby surface craft

6P10 which had been forced to land
on the heavy seas. It was while circ
ling over the 6P10 during the -night
that something suddenly went wrong
no one knew what and the huge
bomber crashed into the ocean ap
parently In full flight.
All that remained of the craft when
found was her smashed gas tank, a
shattered wing , tip and seat cushion.
James M. Shaffer
Of Prospect Dies
James M. Shaffer, resident of the
Prospect district for many years,
passed away at a local hospital Wed
nesdey night after a lingering Illness.
He was aged 75 and had no known
relatives.
Funeral services In charge of the
Perl funeral home will be held at the
graveside in the Medford I. O. O. F.
cemetery Friday at 10 a. m.
