It Is with regret that th students
of the Spanish class, taught by Mr.
Hunter, find their. work is to be dis
continued. The class feels that the
teaching of Mr. Hunter has been so
thorough that every member has a
solid foundation of Spanish gram
mar equal to at least two and a half
years In college, and they hope to i
have a continuation of the work next
fall. 1
OUR TEACHER
"The Spanish Students Tale"
With patient air and smile so bright. I
Our beloved teacher greets his class !
each night.
With fluent flow of Spanish and In
finite concern.
He begs us to listen and to learn.
We try our very best to follow
As he leads us through a maze.
Of stories about the brave caballero,
And tangled verba and ways.
Then with fast beating hearts.
And hands that fairly tremble,
We copy lovely poems,
And then await the part.
Where we vainly try to distinguish
Which is the I do, Thou doest, and
Thou art.
In retrospect we scan the day.
And wonder now It's o'er,
Just where we did not find a way,
To peep beneath our "Texts" worn
cover.
As thus we read and perchance
dream,
With guilty air we suddenly discern,
Our patient teacher wearily leans,
Upon his desk until we recover.
And thus, week after week.
We study thro the hours,
And If by chance our "accent,"
We timidly proclaim.
We find that what we speak,
And what we read are, somehow not
the same.
As we draw near the close of the semester.
Ho thought of failure fills our hearts,
Tho we might have studied faster,
We of knowledge gained our part.
Tis the thought of parting,
From our friends and teacher too.
And the happy hours In study,
He so kindly led us through.
Jn years to come we will look back.
And happily remember.
Not alone the Spanish mastered,
But something far more tender.
The kindly word, the pleasant smile.
Of one who thought It well worth
while,
Ht.i time to share as he tarried there.
And revealed the mystery we all have
sought.
That sacred sharing with another.
Whom the Father, has said is our
brother,
Has opened up the precious channel.
Of our companionship together. I
And has shown us the shining path'
way to God.
