Mrs. Lemmon'a sister.
She left Saturday for Eugene and
Hood River to sp;nd a few days In
those cities with relatives before re

Lead, Normal Play
Merchant of Venice
Tall, with vivid blonde coloring and
a fascinating husky voice, Helen Ed
miston of Medford will piny the lead
as Portia In the current Southern
Oregon Normal school production,
"Merchant of Venice," to he given In
Ahhlnnd May 10 and 11.
Miss Edmiston, playing a difficult
role which Is one of the longest In
the Shakespearean group of plays,
has had her lines memorized for each
act long before the other membsrs
of the cast. Because she Is vitally
Interested In dramatics, Miss Edmis
ton l making a name for herself by
thus being so well prepared at the
frequent lehearsals.
Miss Edmiston has appeared la ft
number of Normal school plnys. In
Fobruary. when Noel Coward s "Hay
fever" was produced, she took an
Ingenue role. Sorel Bliss, giving an
outstanding performance.

Give Recital Here
The Southern Oregon Normal School
orchestra and string quartet, under
the direction of Lucie Neale Landen.
will be presented In concert by- the
Music Teachers' association of Med
ford, Tuesday evening. May 7. at 8
o'clock, at the Presbyterian church
on South Holly. The program prom
ises to be one of the outstanding of
ferings of music week.
The Normal school Is fortunate lh
having Lucte Neale Landen, violinist,
as a member of its faculty. Her
musicianship Is outstanding, and her
work In the development of the or
chestra and string quartet the past
year has bean most ambitious and
unusually fine.
Margery Paley of Medford, a stu
dent at the Normal, will play the
first movement of de Bsrlot O Major
concerto, accompanied by the college
orchestra (orchestration by Lucie
Landen). Miss Paley handles her in
strument well, and plays with
warmth and Intelligence. Other Med
ford students taking part are Ruby
Waddelt. Beth Otlllngs. Ray Lewis
and Dorothy Oore.
