Odd Fellows and Rebeluhi of the
Rogue River valley will meet t Cen
tral Point Friday evening, April 30.
to commemorate founding of the In
dependent Order of Odd Fellows In
America. One hundred and sixteen
years ego Thomas Wlldey and hla
associates met In Baltimore, Ma., and
formed en organization, establishing
the American Jurisdiction Independ
ent of what was known In England
as the Manchester Unity.
In all communities In the United
State i and Canada members of the
order will meet Friday to com
memorate the ocean Ion and to pay
homage to the founder of the or
ganization. Ashland, Central Point,
Oold, Hill, Jacksonville and Med ford
have' Joined together for the event,
and committees have been working to
the end that those attending will be
well repaid for the effort. Central
Point lodge will be host for the even
ing, and has secured the Orange hall
for the banquet and entertainment.
Supper will be served In the large
dining hall and will start promptly
at 0 o'clock, and those In charge of
the kitchen and dining room will
carry on In relays until all have been
served. Mrs, Vinton of Ccniral Point
Rebekah lodge has that part of the
program In charge, and has made ar
rangements to handle the visitors,
and has an able corps of assistants.
All Odd Fellows and their wives and
all Rebekaha and their husbands are
urged to be present. All Rebekahs
who have not been called on by the
soliciting committees are requested

was killed when he fell from high
power transmission pole while em
ployed upon government dam work
at Fist Uock, Mont., will arrive In
Medford this evening on the 5:4ft
train, and will bo taken In charge
by the Perl Funeral Home.
The funcrsl services will be held at
10 o'clock Friday morning at the
grave In, the I. O. O. F. cemetery
Father Bnrtlnm and the Veterans of
Foreign Wars will conduct the ser
vices.

Straw ballots and band-wsgon votes,
says Representative Pierce (D., Ore ),
are growing evils which threaten to
prevent a fair tryout for the Ameri
can form of government.
He so told the house postofflce
committee, when he asked It to ap
prove hla bill making it unlawful to
use the malls for straw ballots.

they don't vote.
"We must always remember the

BREAK IN BEND MAIN
FLOODS BASEMENTS
BEND, Ore., April 25. (API A
break In the Ifl-lnch msln supplying
wster to Bend from the two huge
storage reservoirs on Overturf Butte,
caused considerable property dam
age here last night and left the
city without water for nearly seven
hours. Water from the 13-lnch cracK
spouted Into the air for 80 feet and
a miniature river cascaded through
the residential district, washing out
streets, spreading over yarda and
flooding basement.
Cop's Ousting Ipheld.
PORTLAND, April 33. (AP) The
civil service board today upheld the
discharge of Patrolman William B.
Drennan of the Portland police de
partment, who was dismissed Febru
ary 38 on a drunkenness charge.
Drennan had several similar offenses
charged against his civil service rec
ord.

Enrollment for the new camps
will start at once and will continue
until October 1.
There will be 88 camps In national
forests, four on Oregon de California
land grants, two In state forests,
nine on private lands, nine In state
parka, one in Crater Lake National
park, four Identified with the bio
logical survey, and two In grazing
areas.

arrangement with Samuel French.
Oeorge Wlnne, graduate of Medford
high school, and now a second-class
middy at Annapolis, has been named
art editor of the Annapolis "Log."

art work for the "Crater," hlch school
year book, while In school here, and

ents' week-end, an event to be held
for the first time on the Ashland
campus on May 10 and 11. Honoring
both mothers and fathers of students,
this wee le -end will supplant the Moth
ers' day teaa given by the Associated
Women Students In former years.
