Meet Date Changed The menu-
planning project of the Roxy Ann
borne extension unit, will be post
poned until May 3, according to in
formation released today. The meet
was postponed because of the Illness
of Mr. Mabel Mack, county demon
tratlon agent. However, an after
noon meet will be held Friday, April
10, at the home of Mrs. Eugene Now
Mn on Spring street, for the purpose
of electing officers.

on a fishing expedition to Little

Good Pinochle Hand E. W. Wake
field of 18 Almond street secured a
1500 -trump hand in pinochle In a
friendly game with Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Coss, last Friday night. It was report
ed today. It Is considered an excep
tional hand.

Wallace Promoted Claire D. Wal
lace, assistant adjutant at the Med
ford district CCO headquarters, ha
been promoted from the rank of 1st
lieutenant In the Infantry Reserve to
the rank of captain in the Judge ad
vocate general department. Captain
Wallace la an attorney. He will con
tinue on duty In the Medford district
with hi new rank.
Roach Returns Arthur D. Roach,
storekeeper at Crater lake, ha re
turned from Seattle, where he was
married, and left for the park with
Ralph Goode, member of the winter
crew. Hi wife, the former Miss Sadie
McKillop of Seattle, will come from
Seattle when the park is opened for
the summer.
From Portland H. C. Klement of
Portland, who 1 In charge of educa
tional and young people's work for
the Oregon Conference. Seventh Day
Adventlsts. arrived this morning on
the Oregonlan to attend to official
business at the Rogue River Junior
academy.

SPEEDWAY FAME
PASSES THROUGH
Jo Thomas, veteraa automobile
racing driver and one of the bril
liant stars of the speedway for nearly
a quarter of a century, visited Med
ford Tuesday evening on hi econ
omy ran from the Canadian border
to San Diego, California. Driving a
atock Ford V-8 and using Gilmore
gasoline and motor oil, the famous
racing driver will demonstrate to
prospective visitors to the San Diego
exposition this summer now eco
nomically the trip may be made from
various point on the Pacific coast.
His present gasoline mileage fig
ures 31.S miles per gallon, with
driving at the normal touring speed
between 25 and SO miles per hour.
Mr. Thomas started his run Mon
day at the Canadian border with an
Impressive ceremony attended by the
prime minister of Canada, officials
of the consular service. American
and Canadian police and traffic of
ficials, and scores of dignitaries.
He carrle with him letters ox
greeting to the mayor of San Diego
and officials of the exposition, from
.the prime minister of Canada, the
governora of Oregon and Washing
ton, and the mayors of Seattle, Ta
coma and Portland. On his trip
through California Mr. Thomas will
visit Governor Merrism. and Mayor
Rossi of San Francisco. He will ar
rive In San Diego Thursday night.
Jo Thomas' career on the speed
way and In the air has been a color
ful one. He first began his auto
mobile racing actlvitlea In 1913. and
h as held numerous world records
from time to time. He has driven in
races In every section of the United
States over a period of 23 years,
and his speedway activities were only
interrupted during the World War,
when he served as flying Instructor
In the United States air service,
Daredevil stunts In moving pictures
and doubling for such stars a Tom
Mix lent variety to his racing activi
ties.
In 1934 Earl B. Gilmore. president
of the Gilmore Oil company and
himself a racing enthusiast, enter
tained some of the country' most
colorful racing drivers of the past
20 years in southern California, at
which Joe Thomas waa an honored
guest. Other member of the racing
fraternity who were present at this
reunion were Eddie Pullen. Barney
Old field, Eddie Rlckenbacker and
Earl Cooper.

ALAMEDA, Cel., April 10. (AP)
The big Pan-American clipper plane
took off from here today In It final
teat flight over the ocean before fly
ing to Honolulu to establish commer
cial air service to the Far East.
The plane will be directed com
pletely by rado compass equipment
and will fly approximately 1000 mile
In a zig-zag course.
The ship lifted a load of 94.000
pounds, or 6000 more than It had
taken aloft previously. It broke the
weight lifting mark of 10,000 pound
carried by Its Bister ship, the Bra
zilian clipper, to a height of 6000
feet.
Nine persons were aboard the clip
per, commanded by Captain Edwin O.
Mustek.
Weighing a gross 42.000 pounds.
the plane. It four motors roaring,
took off In S3 seconds after a run of
1800 feet.
It carried sufficient gasoline for a
flight of 3200 miles.
Captln Mustek headed the ship on
a southerly course, climbed to 3000
feet and then to 7000 feet, where the
engineer were to study the engines'
superchargers.
The course of the clipper's flight
was not announced.
The tribal council at the Cherokee
Indian reservation In North Carolina
has voted to build home for aged
and infirm members of the tribe,

(AP) Every school in Baca county
waa closed, railroad tralna were
stopped In places and automobile
travel was dangerous as a new dust
storm swept this area last night and
today.
At Prltchett 180 school children
and passengers on buses were housed
overnight In the school building and
nearby homes when visibility drop
ped to zero. The storm still raged
thla afternoon and it was expected
the children would spend a second
night away from home.
A Jefferson day banquet scheduled
for Saturday night, at which Gov.
