RURAL HIGHWAYS
Jackson county U now making pre
liminary prepsratlone for the launch
ing of Its 1935 road oiling program,
and to that end have been operating
road equipment for the past week
putting roada in ahape for the ad
mlnlaterlng of the oil. It la a part
of a cooperative five-year oiling pro
gram lnauguarated by the county
court, for which a SIO.000 appropri
ation ni made In the laat budget.
In the Table Rock district the Ta
ble Rock store haa been moved across
the road, eliminating a dangerous In
tersection, and enabling the straight
ening of the road past the E. W.
Carleton orchard. The Modoo or
chard has submitted lta check for the
oiling of the road from this point to
their buildings.
Oiling of the Taylor road from
Central Point to the Old Stage road
will also be started at an early date.
It la one of the heaviest travelled ru
ral roads In the county.
In all these three Jobs, the expense
of oiling la shared equally by the
county and resident along the
routes.
County Judge Day eald today that
ten districts of the county would be
oiled this year for short stretches,
and would cover the entire county.
Oiling eosta about 11000 per mil.
"Oiling this yesr will Just be a
atart," county Judge Day states. By
doing a little each year, in five years
the county will hsve something to
show for Its oiling. At the same time
the county la aavlng the roada In
which It has a heavy Investment.
Oiling preserves the road base and
prevents deterioration under fast and
heavy travel. The county la willing
and anxloua to cooperate on 60-00
basis, with any district desiring oil
ing. "The oiling will also keep down
the dust In the summer time, and
be welcomed by every rural housewife."

tents for summer use.
At present these arc 1,640 CCC
camps and movement from winter
to summer quarters Is to take place
the coming; month.

and Mr. Knight, who extend an in

BUTTE FALLS PIPE
TO ARRIVE TODAY
First shipment of pips for the
Butte Falls water system Improve
ment under a 85000 PWA loan to
the municipality la scheduled to ar
rive today from 'the Hlllsboro, Ore
gon, plant of the Gates Pipe Co,
Preliminary work on the project is
now underway, and expected to be
in full swing by early next week.
The project calls for replacement
of the present wooden pipe of the
Butte Falls system, with steel pipe.
Under terms of the contract resi
dent of Butte Falls must be em
ployed on the work, and federal em
ployment rolls, were Inspected today
by Butte Falls officials and Cm-
tractor Stevens to procure names of
those eligible.
The project In one of the first In
the state to get underway, under a
PWA loan for- municipal betterment.
Legal details of the agreement and
contract were handled by Attorney
Ootto Frohmayer of this city.
