The method employed in Texas to
bar negroes from voting at Demo
cratic primaries by restricting mem
bership In the party to whltee-was
eusuiiied today by the supreme
court.
The action of the Texas Demo
cratic convention in May, 1033, In
limiting party members tq white
citizens qualified to vote under state
laws, was challenged by R, B. Oro
vey, a 44-year-old Harris county
negro.
In 1033 the supreme court deelared
Invalid a Texas atatute which pro.
hlblted ncgroea from voting at Demo
cratic elections. Since then the Bame
results have been sought by action
of the Democratic party organization.

pital at 10:00 p.m. Saturday. Helen
A Mllkowsltl was born at Boston,
Kansas, April 91. 1605 and was on
of a family of 11 children.
Besides her parents, sir. snd Mrs.
Paul J. Mllkowskl of Medford, she
leaves one son, Paul Dale Vincent,

er petals have fallen; liquid lime

SILENT, NEARLY DEAF
EDMONTON, Alta.. April 1. (API
Silent, almost dumb and certainly
hard of hearing after five years In
the fastnessea of the far north, An
drew Bahr, 70-year-old reindeer
herder returned to this outpost of
civilization yesterday like "a man
from another world." ,
And by special dispensation, which
opened a clothing atcre and a shoe
store on the Sabbath, Edmonton aaw
him transformed Into "a man of the
world."
At the Edmonton airport, Andy
stepped out of an airplane piloted
south by Archie McMullen. And for
the first time since ha started a
trek acrcss Alaska with a reindeer
herd for the hungry Esklmoa, Andv
saw a city a white man's city of
modern homes, streets, motor cars
electric cars and plumbing.
The little, stooped man almost
as broad as he Is tall had com
pleted a task well nigh epic, driving
3000 reindeer 1800 miles along the
ice-ribbed Arctic coast to the new
reindeer reserve east of the Mac
kenzie delta, established by Canada
for Its Impoverished natives.

Wilson's place plowing and preparing
several plots of ground for seeding.
Mr. Wilson who has been In Klnmath
county shearing sheep, returned home
Sunday to recuperate from a recent
spell of pneumonia. Mr. Wilson Is
professional sheep shearer and Is
away from home several weeks each
spring.

Thursday, accompanied by Mra.
Young who took the train to Wash
lngton to Join her husband who la
employed there.
Helen and Billy Woodblock of
Grants pass spent two days last week
with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
John Letteken.
Mrs. Anna Knutzen and Mr. and

son creek visited Monday with Mr.
and Mrs. c. W. Roberts. They return
