Fifty members of the West Coast
i Lumbermen's association today en
dorsed a formal resolution to the
board of directors asking that the
NRA code for lumber be thrown Into
the discard.
The resolution was to be presented
at an executive session of the board
later today.
The lumbermen agreed that work
ing conldtlons and wage ratea estab
lished under NRA should be retained,
but they demanded overthrow of all
other provisions.
Lumbermen drew a gloomy picture
of wha they generally described as
the Ineffectiveness of the NRA lum
ber code. They agreed, finally, to
vote for Its suspension until such
time as the trustees can obatln an
amendment or revision of the code
which would be acceptable to the
Industry and code authorities.
Pending the drawing of a satisfac
tory code, there would be no reduc
tion of minimum wages or any In
crease In working hours, now set at
40 a wee, under terms of another
resolution.
The lumbermen recommended that
the Industry continue Its work of
timber conservation. Pear was ex
pressed that Indicated policies of the
national fores service In the matter
of conservation would be Injurious to
the lumber Industry.
