here yesterday when the Hutchinson,
Kan., Transit gained the quarter
final round of the annual A. A. U.
tournament with a 81 to 39 victory
over the Oregon ians.
The SON'S scoring aces were held
scoreless from the field, although
Ward Howell, forward-center alter
nate, connected for five gift tosses
before being retired on fouls and
Charley Patterson, negro center garn
ered three. Chief McLean, Indian for
ward scored three goals from the
field.
The Transits took the game In
hand from the start and were lead
ing 35 to 15 at half time.
A courageous late rally sparked by
sharpnhootlng Ben Selzer and cli
maxed by the last-minute goal of the
veteran Carl Larson won the defend

The surprise return of winter yes
terday put ft damper on golf activi
ties at Rogue Valley golf course and
the ladles' tournament that had been
scheduled was cancelled. A group of
women enjoyed luncheon In the club
house, however, and plana were made
for a mixed foursome tournament
which was scheduled to begin today.
Hostesses at the luncheon were Mrs.
Homer Marx, Mrs. Ted GeBauer and
Anna Mas Puson. A mixed tourna
ment will be held for lady golfers
next Wednesday.
