Mrs. Emma Hall was reported very
111 with pneumonia, but showing
some Improvement.
On March 7 officers and members
of Live Oak Orange will go to Oold
Hill to assist In opening of a new
Orange hall there In the evening. Of
ficers of Like Oak Orange will put
on the opening and closing of the
Orange meeting.
After the business meeting March
4 the lectur hour was under the di
rection of Prank Greenwood, who as
slated In Instructing the officers In
properly opening and closing the
Orange. Mr. Greenwood alfo spent
some time In drilling officers In ft
very Impressive seating drill.

continue work and plans for the
spring carnival that will be held on
March 23 at Rogue River.
The ladles are bringing with them
all articles that they have completed

Jacksonville Grange
At the meeting of the Jacksonville
Orange Friday evening a representa
tive of the Automobile Safety league
will be present to speak concerning
rules and regulations of safety and
give facts about auto accidents.
Orange officers will initiate four
new candidates into the first and
second degrees: Mr. and Mrs. Prank
Sylvia and Mrs. and Miss Edens of
Jacksonville.
Extensive planet are being made by
Jacksonville Orange for the St. Pat
rick's day dinner dance on the night
of March 16. A hot dinner is to be
served at 11 o'clock bv th- ' - "

EFFORT QUELL RIOTING

HAVANA, Cuba, March 7. (AP) A
detachment of 300 soldiers occupied
Hsvana university today as tha gov
ernment or President Carina Mendleta
sought by forceful measures to quell
the strikes menacing Its authority.
The action was taken after a day
of violence which resulted In the
deaths of two persons and injuries

The Invasion of the university
grounds ended the Institution's Jeal
ously cherished autonomy. Under the
Cuban constitution no policeman,
soldier or sailor la permitted to enter
university property, but constitution
al guarantees are now suspended.
Before the soldiers took over the
university, they surrounded its
grounds, temporarily Imprisoning 300
teachers and students, among them
the directing committees of the strike.
Later they were allowed to leave and
go to their homes.
Newspaper men were barred from
the area. Censorship was placed over
all Havana newspapers.
Wet conditions In the fellds of
Jackson county are delaying spring
planting of wheat and other grains,
according to County Agent Robert O.
Fowler. Clearing weather and drying
ground will bring a rush to get tne
aeed in the ground. Last fall, seed
planting was delayed, owing to the
dryness of the soil. Fall sown grnln
Is progressing fine, the county Agent
reports.
Ground moisture conditions are
now excellent, according to Olen
Arnsplger, general manager of the
Talent and Med ford Irrigation dis
tricts. Emigrant dam Is now ap
proximately three-quarters full, he
tatos. Hlatt Prairie and Pish lake
will have to await the spring runoff
before filling substantially. This
generally occurs in April.
Arch Work, Irrigation engineer of
the Fedeial orchard, Water muster
Smith and Manager Arnsplger are
now drafting a. report on the water
and molture situation, which will be
published when all the data Is available.
