SALE OF PONTIAC
In the month of January rewntly
eloMd, more new Pont lac tlxe and
WjjhU were delivered at retail In the
United State than during any pre
vious January aince 1928, according
to H. J. Kllnglor, president and en
ral manager of Pontlac Motor com
pany. The figure ahow a total of 7390
retail deliveries thli year compared
with 3567 for January 1934 and fi3i6
for January 1933. In other word,
deliveries thl year are 300 per cent
over January last year and almost
m great as the two previous Janu
arys combined.
More cars were delivered during
the final tn days or January than
during all of January lat year and
unfilled orders from dealers have
gone up 83B6 since December 31st.
Shipments Into the export field
have shown an even more remarkable
gain with a total for January this
year of 1588 against 232 for the
month hurt year and 235 for Janu
ary 1033.
Production or 1035 models through
December and January has been more
than double the production of 1934
ears in the same two months a year
ago.
As to the future. Mr KHngler of
fers the prediction that Pontlac will
build and sell at retail more cars In
February than It did In any month
pf 1934.
"These figures are all the more
remarkable," said Mr. KHngler, "when
you consider that the so-called auto
mobile buying season Is only begin
ning. Big deliveries usually do not
start until March. Our unusual sales
at such an early period In the year
Indicates two very definite things.
First, of courae, the new Pont lacs
dare received an almost unprecedent
ed acceptance and there i a marked
loosening of the public purse string
brought about by a renewed feeling
of confidence and by the huge ex
penditure of money for public work
and by the major national relief
measures.
"There are dealers 1n every section
pf the country 'who are selling more
pars than they did during all of last
frear.
"Up In Superior, Wise., with the
temperature averaging some 25 de
grees below Eero, In January, the
Pontlac dealer whose biggest January
up to date had been five retail sales
has taken orders for the Immediate
delivery of eleven new cara In the
knonth Just closed.
"Last year a small dealer In South
Dakota sold seventeen Pontlaca dur
lag the year and we had twelve
months In which to make the de
liveries. This year the same dealer
booked orders for thirteen cars dur
ing the first two weeks of the month
and has been doing t very thing under
heavens to get delivery on all thir
teen cara at once.
"These two Instances can dup
licated In scores of localities all over
he country with the result that In

The 68 miles between Tamazun
chnle and Jacala Is heavy moun
tain construction, barred to travel
at present. You cannot get to
Mexico City yet and will not be
able to until sometime between
April 1 and June 1.

the tube Is of radically different con
struction than anything previously
attempted. It consists of a "double
tube," one Inside the other and
Joined together at the base, with
a single vent hole connecting the
two air chambers.
The outside tube la similar in
function and appearance to a regu
lar tube and fits against the Inside
of the casing, while the Inside tube
or "lung." built of two piles of fab
ric, floats free without chafing. In
flation is conducted ln the usual
manner, the vent hole permitting air
to pass from the Inner chamber to
the outer chamber so that in ordi
nary service the Inner carcass Is
under no strain, but simply floats
free Inside the tube.
When s blowout occurs the air
escapes from the outside chamber
Immediately but can escape from
the Inner chamber only through the
single small vent hole. Thus only
a portion of the air Is lost In the
blowout and the tire drops down
slightly to ride on the Inner fabric
carcans. which loses its air very
slowly. This permits the car to con- i
tlnue under perfect control, giving
the driver ample time to pull oft
the road and stop without endan
gering himself, has car or the lives
of other motorists. In effect, the
new tube converts a sudden blow
out into a slow leak.
Prior to the official demonstra
tion here hundreds of tests were
conducted by Goodyear drivers in
which tires were blown out at high
speeds by. using dynamite caps, by
running over a plate studded with
huge railway spikes and by other
means but each time the tub"" al
lowed the driver to continue on a
straight course down the highway
In absolute control of the car and
without the violent swerving attend
ing the blowout of an ordinary tube.
The tube Is believed by Goodyear
officials and by the officials wit
nessing the demonstrations to be
one of the most Important contribu
tions to the safety of motoring that
has been made in the past decade.

The C. E. Gates Auto company
have Just placed a new Ford touring
sedan on their display floor. You, of
course, know that this car Is merely
a four-door sedan with a built-in
trunk. In this new car the Inside
length la not shortened as It Is In
some cars, however, the regular lug
gage compartment that la In all Ford
sedans la now eliminated and Is re
placed by the bullt-ln trunk. This
touring sedan, which Is the highest
priced Ford model made. Is now up
holstered In a new type of material
which Is usually only found on the
more expensive automobiles.
The Packard Motor company has
recently announced a new low-priced
Packard which is called the One
Twenty. This car Is priced moder
ately, which Is something entirely
new for Packard. It has many fea
tures such as hydraulic brakes, full
pressure lubrication, silent synchro-
mesh, double acting hydraulic shock
absorbers, and Packard Safe-T-fle-X
Independent wheel suspension. The
Interior refinements Include such
features as a ventilating system, sun
vlaors, windshield wipers, ash-trays,
rob rails, toggle grips, foot rests, and
locked pscksge compartment. We
personally believe that this new Pack
ard will receive a much better re
ception than any car the Packard
Motor company hss ever produced.
Our reasons for believing this are be
cause of Its very smart lines, Its large
size and Its low price.
In speaking of prices, It seems to
be the general tendency of competi
tion to run along the lines of prices
this year. Apparently there will be
much sales-talk for low prices snd
also for features of comfort.
This year's Reo Flying Cloud la
quite a departure from previous
Reos In Its body design. The lines are
very round and smooth and are fin
ished off with a sweeping rear end.
The car has also adopted the narrow
radiator which has become all the
rage this year. Other features are a
90 horse-power engine, full pressure
lubrication, and hydraulic brakes.
The equipment Includes safety glaas
windshield, two windshield wipers,
two sun visors, glove compartment,
dual tall lamps, foot rests, and robe
rails.

purposely blown out at 60 miles per

runways of the airport and In every
case the new tube allowed the driver
to bring the car to a stop In a
