Hollywood has Iti stars of the sil
ver screen; the Metropolitan Grand
Opera, a score of singing voices; and
Broadway Its shining lights of musi
cal productions, but the Meedford
high school also has a few of the tal
ented members of the younger gene
ration. With the current production of the
combined glee clubs Just a week off,
practice has been speeded up and
dress rehearsals are to be called
shortly. "Chimes of Normandy." writ
ten by Planquette at his best, Is
scheduled to greet the audiences at
the auditorium of the local high
school on Tuesday and Wednesday,
February 36 and 27.
Speaking of talent, an overflow
has been cast In the production.
Some 80 students will blend their
voices to make this operetta a suc
cess. Numerous leads are featured,
representing some of the better vo
calists of Med ford high.
Miss Mary Kern, high soprano, has
been chosen to play the feminine
lead, that of Germalns, the village
peasant girl. Miss Kem has played
leads In two previous operettas. Her
hobby Is singing and It Is her In ten- j
tlon to continue her vocal study In
Eugene.
" 'Chimes of Normandy' has a clever j
plot and Is entirely different from
anything ever presented by our glee
Clubs," states Miss Kem.
Henri, the village hero, Is depleted
by Harvey Field, baritone. Mr. Field
has an unusually mellow and pleas
ing voice. It Is learned that his sing
ing experience amounts to some four
edd months, which Is quite an ac
complishment. With a voice that Is
a combination of Nelson Eddy and
Blng Crosby he will please the au
dience fortunate enough to attend
the musical playlet.
Qaspard, a character role. Is taken
by Robert Murphy, also a baritone.
Murphy had a major role In the
"Mikado," last year's operetta. Mr.
Murphy found himself singing so
prano in a Sunday school choir at the ,
early age of five ad has continued j

constant practice. He has no inten- I

work and prefers modern melodies to
