Society and Club Events Reviewed for Week I

Of Gay Cocktail
Party and Dance
One of the gayet"event of the
new spring season was the formal
cocktail pnrty end dance given rrt
day evenlw? at the Knlghle of
Pythias hell, which attractively
decorated In a Valentine color echeme
or red and white with huge bou-
queta of flowers and puany-wlllowa
banned along the wane. .
The sixty couples who attended
were aerved cocktails at 8:30, and
dancing atarted at 10 o'clock.
The hall wa made lovely with
bouquet of red carnatlona and the
huge clumpa of pussy-willows, which
pervaded the rooms with a touch
of spring and left Impreeslona of a
delightful evening. The buffet table
waa attractively arranged with red
carnations and candles.
Hosts and hostesses were Mr. and
Mrs. Flavlua West, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Norrle and Mr. and Mrs. Don
Newbury.
Mr. and Mra. Donald Oray of Port
land, who are the house guest In
Medford of Mr. and Mrs. Olen Smith,
and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Elsermann.
also of Portland, house guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Olenn Jackson, were
the out-of-town guesta at the dance.
The muslo waa furnished by Whip
ple's orchestra.

to six at a luncheon Saturday given
at Hotel Medford In honor of her
house guest, Mrs. Pet Elsermann of
Portland. Mra. Donald Oray of Port
land, who Is the house guest In Med
ford ot Mrs. Olon Smith, was also an
honor guest.

Four Circles At
Neighbors9 Rally
Held In Phoenix
The Pour southern Oregon Circles
of Neighbors of Woodcraft held a
rally In Phoenix Feb. II.
Oak Circle No. 343 of Phoenix was
hostess and circles taking part were,
Chrysanthemum, Aaalla and Acorn.
A short program was provided be
fore the regular meeting. Three folk
dances by the girls of the Phoenix
grade school were greatly enjoyed as
well as a piano solo by Miss Marian
Moore. Following this, Juveniles of
the phoenix circle exemplified their
work under direction of their senior
guardian, Mildred Ward. The three
visiting (senior guardians, 'Mrs. Blg
gler, Medford: Mrs. Parr, Ashland,
and Mrs. Latham of Grants Pans
were their special guests and were
each presented with a beautiful cor
sage by the past Guardian Neighbor
of the Juveniles, Rosemary Bishop.
At the meeting the ritualistic work
was beautifully done by the visiting
circles. Officers and guardians of
Ashland opened the circle In form,
Medford presented the flag and
Grants Pass put on the closing cere
mony. Phoenix officers and guards
gave the lnltlntory work. The fol
lowing new members were Initiated:
Mrs. Olive Floyd of Phoenix and
three candidates from Orant Pass.
The session was greatly saddened
by the sorrow of Mrs. Hilda Hansen,
the advisor of chrysanthemum circle,
Medford, and a rosnlutlon of sym
pathy for herself and family was
adopted by the body as a whole.
There were 35 visitors from Chrys
anthemum Circle No. 84, Modford; 37
from Azalla Circle No. 183, Grants
Pass, and 30 from Acorn Circle, No.
M, Ashland; 1 from Naomi Circle, In
Idaho and 2 from Lebanon Circle,
Ore.
Quardlan Neighbor Pankey of Ash
land gave a cordial Invitation to all
olroles of the southern Oregon dis
trict to meet with them In Ashland,
March 18.
At a late hour the guests retired
to the dining room where a pleasant
time was spent In eating and visit
ing.

Impromptu" and "Bercia?," both by
Chopin; "Wings of Spring," Mendnl-ssohn-Llezt;
"Tarautclla," by Liszt.
She will appear In full recital later.
Three Generations
Assemble at Party
Mra. Gust Peterson waa pleasantly
surprised on her 67th birthday at the
home of her daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mra. Vern Troxell, 30 Myers
court, last Tuesday evening.
A delicious two-course dinner was
served In honor of the occasion. At
a long candle-decked table were seat
ed many of her descendants, the com
pany representing three generations.
The following friends and relatives
were present: Gust Peterson, Mr. and
Mrs. Wayne Troxell and children.
Clyde. Delbert, -Dorothy, Arlene and
Frances; Mr. and Mra. Clyde Balder
aton; Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Smith
and son, Lionel; Mr. and Mrs. Vern
Troxell and the honor guest, Mrs.
Peterson.
All of Mother Peterson's children
were present except one son, Earl
Troxell, and his wife and children,
Lyle and Margaret, whose home la In
Ellston, Iowa.
Card Party Planned

On Wednesday evening the Eastern
Star chapter of Jacksonville will hold
a card party In the dining room of
the Masonic hall. Several tables will
be In play and there will be any
choice of gamea. Refreshments will
be served by the committee In charge.

Mrs. Ethel Weed
Hostess to Group
Past Noble-Grand club met at the
home of Mrs. Ethel Weed, Thursday
evening with thirty-five members and
four visitors present. Mrs. Margery
Pearson, president of the club, presid
ed at the business session.
A beautiful tribute was paid to Mra.
Myrtle Wilson, a departed, member,
by Mrs. Mary Wiley.
Plans were made for a chicken din
ner to be given for the public, March
1 at the I. O. O. P. hall.
Following the business meeting a
pleasant social time, In keeping with
the Valentine season, was enjoyed,
with delicious refreshments served by
the hostesses, Mrs. Ethel Weed, Lona
Bergman, and Carrie Rlckert. Tho
rooms were decorated In Valentine
and patriotic motif.
Mistletoe Club Meets'
With 22 Members Present
Mistletoe club met Wednesday aft
ernoon with Neighbor Margaret Gar
rett as hostess at her homo, 704 Onk
dale avenue, with 39 members and
seven guests present.
Following a brief business period
needlework and social merriment

piecing of a quilt, each member
piecing a block, the proceeds to bo
applied to the "Bend or bust" fund
being rabd to send the drill team
to Bend next May.
While gloomy and showering out
side, a very pleasant time waa being

exchanged.

Bridge Luncheon
Forty guests were present at a Val
entine's day bridge luncheon held
Thursday at Hotel Medford with Mrs.
O. HUdlng Bengtson and Mrs. Karl
Janoucu hostesses. Decorations were
carrred out In keeping with Valen
tine's day, with bouquets of acacia
arranged in the hall.
Mrs. jack Porter was awarded the
prize for high score In bridge, Miss
Josephine Kopea second prize, and
Mrs. L. L. Sanders third.

To Have Colonial
Party On Friday .
Ladles of St. Mark's Guild will
sponsor their annual Colonial card
party next Friday afternoon, Febru
ary 22 at St. Mark's parish hall.
The committee In charge, which
will be In costume, comprises Mrs.
Hal Piatt, chairman, Mrs. John
Barneburg. who will have charge of
refreshments and Mrs. R. C. Mul
holland, who will have charge of a
short musical program. The enter
tainment will be presented while tea

wedding of her cousin, the former Mis
Helen Claire Shiva of Klamath Falls.
