tel, president of the Oregon Stat Mo
tor association, yesterday urged Gov
ernor Martin to follow out the presi
dent's wish by setting up a state-wide
program to reduce the number of
traffic accidents. ,
The nation's chief executive Issued
a letter Friday, which was directed to
the governor of 48 states. He urced
them to give utmost attention to the
problem of making the streets and
highways safer for both pedestrian
and careful drivers.
Dr. McDantel pointed out that the
president's move was in step with the
"Let's Quit Killing" safety campaign
already begun by the Oregon Stnte
Motor association and highly com
mended the attitude of the federal
administration on the matter.
"The association has suggested to
Governor Martin that he appoint a
strong atate committee which would
begin work at once on co-ordination
of legislative, enforcement, education
al and engineering problems as they
pertain to the highway safety situa
tion In Ocegon," Dr. McDnnle) said.
"Believing that the critical situa
tion existing in highway safety calls
for the highest type of leadership
available, we have even ventured to
suggest that H. B. Van, Duzer be se
lected to head the governor's com
mittee. Mr. Van Duzer tti a former
chairman of the state highway com
mission and has been a lender in
highway safety for a number of
years."
Existing organizations. It was ex

hearted support to such a move.

High honors of the racing world
go to these four daring drivers for
deeds of the past year in pioneering
greater achievements for the mod

PORTLAND, Feb. 2. (AP) Con
gressman V'alter M. Pierce probably
never received such a scorching tele
gram from a constituent In eastern
Oregon as he had today from Mayor
Joseph K. Carson of Portland.
Admittedly "burned up," Carson
sent Pierce a long telegram yester
day which contained a barrage of
quostlons dealing with the Bonneville
power situation.
Carson was Irritated by reputed In
tlmatlons by Pierce In a conference
with President Roosevelt, that Port'
land Is trying to "hog" power output
from the Bonneville dam.
"There la no provincialism on the
part of our people; Carson wired,
"and wo resent any Imputation of
that character."

I have taken and I know our people
are heartily In favor of every co
operation on the part of Portland to

The 1035 Bulck models have not
changed their general lines this year
but Instead have worked on. and Im
proved their engineering features.
One feature which la quite outstand
ing Is the new and Improved braking
system. This year's brakes have case
Iron brake drums which are finned
for better cooling, and they are oper
ated by a vacuum power unit which
lessens the amount of pressure which
Is needed to stop the car and which
also tends to equalize the action on
all four wheels. This year's cars have
retained Knee-Action. No-Draft ven
tilation, automatic choke and also
their ride stabilizer which decreases
side-sway when making turns. This
feature la a real comfortln a country
like southern Oregon which abounds
In mountain roads. t
The body on the new Dodge Is
something which certainly cannot be
overlooked. This year's bodies are all
steel, that Is. the frame, the doors.
the body panels, the floor, the brac
ings, the roof bows, and the cowl are
all steel, and It in stated that It ts
especially strong because the body Is
now mounted around the frame In
stead of being mounted on top of It.
This new method of mounting Is sup
posed to make both the body and
frame more rigid and safe than they
have ever been before. The body also
has an abundance of leg room In both
front and rear seats. The new car
has also "Finger-tip" steering and
"Feather-pressure" clutch which real
ly are great Improvements over any
thing Dodge has ever had before.

PORTLAND, Feb. 2. (AP) The
greatest Individual advance ever
made In the local butter market In
sofar as records go, became effective
at the opening of trade. There ws
a sheer rise of 2 to 3 cents lb. Id
cubes during the late special session
with the greatest rise In prime first.
Advtince of 3 cents lb. in the buying
price on butterfat completed the
record movement.
The advance In butter comes as the
result of continued strength In the
trade at other points and with an In
adequate supply offered elsewhere
Locally the make remained season
ably liberal which means that pro
ducers of butterfat were cashing In
on a bullish market such as never
previously seen here.

ts supposed to be responsible for the
Improvement. In this newest ship
ment was a four-door touring sedan,

ly a four-door sedan with a bullt-ln
trunk at the rear, and 1 believe that
it Is really worth the extra money you
would pay for It, especially If you do
much traveling. It has decreased the
leg room a little but the rear seat is
even easier to enter and leave than It
was before. The trunk has an excep

very easy to get at.
Last week we stated that some sta

but as yet It has not arrived so we
hope you will be patient for a while

something for you In the near future.
