league club owners, meeting In an
nual session, looked back on their
own operations through 1034 and de
rided they'd make no major chnngen
for 1038.
They voted down a resolution by
L. C. McEvoy of the St. Louis Browns
to ban all radio broadcasting after
present contracts expire, bIro reject
ed a plan to curb synthetic double
headers, decided to place all club
scouts and trainers under contract
and parceled out some of the funds
they will get from the all-star game
in Cleveland July 8.
From the all-star game receipts
$30,000 will go to the American Le
gion for excuses in operating the
Junior Legion play and $60,000 will
go to each league for welfare and
charitable work.
The placing of scouts and traliirrs
under contracts means they now will
have the same status as ball playcra
and cannot transfer from one club to
another without the owner's consent.

CHICAGO, Dec. 14. (A9) Richard
E. (Dick) Hanley. who coached North
western to shares of' the 1930 and
1931 Western conference football
championship, has been given an op
portunlty to resign, it was reliably
reported today.
He has not made up his mind to
do so, but it Is considered likely t';e
faculty athletic committee of the
university at a meeting today will
not recommend that another con
tract be offered him.
Although North western's football
fortunes have dwindled since 193'
it was said opposition from a fac
ulty group had more to do with tue
situation than criticism of his abil
ity to develop winning teams. Han
Icy conferred yesterday with Dr. Wal
ter Dill Scott, president of the uni
versity. He was graduated from Washington
State college In 1919, coached f r
two years at Pendleton, Ore., high

two buck deer one of the most dra
matic incident of wild life was
made apart of the Medford state po
lico records yesterday following the
discovery of two deer with their
horns locked, at Rose Auto Camp,
situated In the Slskiyous.
One of the animals, n two pointer,
dlrd of wounds and exhaustion short
ly before proprietor Rose notified
Harvey Fisher of the state police that
the two deer had rolled and strug
gled into hi camp.
When Officer Fisher, a new mem
ber of the Medford Ftate police dl

ent. The officer judged the animals

doubles tournament will be taken

John H. Happel, 53. occupied a cell
In the city Jnll today while police
awaited word from Los An poles,
where he is wanted for the "trunk
murder" of his wife, Mrs. Rosabella
Marie Happel,
Happel, arrested on a passenger
bus as it nearcd here late yesterday,
was reported by police to have said
he was on his way here to take a bis
to Los Angeles and surrender on the
charge. Chief of police John J. Mc
Carthy said the prisoner made a de
tailed statement admitting the mur
der. In the statement, the police chief
said, Happel told how he beat his
wife to death because of her preslst
ent napging. "She was in the bed
room pulling on her stockings," the
officer quoted him. "I snuck up be
hind her and bashed her In the head
with a lead pipe."
The police chief said Happel then
told how he had dismembered the
body "with a meat saw" and placed
the remains in an old trunk. The
trunk was found in a shed back of
the Happel home Dec. 3 by Los An
geles police.
