Important resolutions were adopted
by the taxation and the legislative
committees of the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce this week and
have been submitted to the board
of directors for consideration. It was
announced by the Chamber of Com
merce officials this morning.
At a recent meeting of the taxa
tion committee, the question of de
linquent taxes was discussed at
length and a plan was worked out
whereby these delinquent taxea could
be paid on the installment plan.
The committee unanimously endorsed
the idea and It will be acted on by
the board of directors at the earliest
possible moment. If the plan Is put
into operation, chamber of com
merce officials believe It will make
It easier for citizens to pay - their
delinquent taxea and it la expected
that It will meet with general ap
proval. The legislative committee discussed
at length a bill known as the home
stead exemption fund tax, which Is
expected to be presented before the
coming legislature. The bill is pat
terned after one submitted at the
last session by Jackson county repre
sentatives, although one or two
changea have been made. It la de
signed to reduce taxes on homesteads
and is accompanied by another bill
which provides for raising funds to
offset this exemption. This proposal
was also endorsed unanimously by
the committee. Due to the fact that
the Chamber of Commerce will hold
a forum luncheon tomorrow the board
of directors will not meet In regu
lar session, but It la expected that
a special meeting will be held within
a day or so to consider these two
Important committee recommendations.
