At Birthday Party
On Tuesday evening members of
the family of Mrs. Lena Beery gath
ered at her. home, 118 North Peach. !
to surprise her on her eighty-fourth :
birthday. A delightful evening was
spent with cards and games being
played.
Those present were Mr. and Mrs.
Jesse Wilson and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Edwin Beery and family, of
Phoenix, O. H. Beery and family, Mr.
and Mrs. C. J. Ravenar, Mr. and Mrs.
P. K. Lawson and family, and Misses
Gayle and Wllma Beery. The entire
family was present with the excep
tion of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Raven
ar of Applegate and Maynard Wilson
of Eugene.

Extends Invitation
Reverend E. S. Bartlam, pastor of
the St. Mark's Episcopal church has
cxteuded an Invitation to all the of
ficers and their families of the Civil
ian Conservation corps, to attend the
11 o'clock services at the St. Mark's
church Sunday. Major Clare H. Arm
strong, commander of the Medford
CCC district, has accepted Reverena
Bartlam's invitation.
Mrs. Umhocker
Visits In Medford
' Mrs. Richard Limbocker of Seattle,
who will be remembered in Medford
as Miss Pauline Grieves, Is a visitor
In Medford for a few days. She Is en
route to Huntington Park, Calif.,
where she will spend the Christmas
holidays with her mother and sis
ter. While in Medford she Is visiting
her brother, William Grieves, who re
sides on West Matn street.
Bellvlew Children
Enjoy Birthday Party
BELLVIEW. Dec. 7. (Spl.) Miss
Barbara Helms entertained several of
her friends with a birthday party
Saturday. This was Barbara's eighth
birthday anniversary and her first
party.
The guests were : Veda Williams,
Nancy Briggs, Charlaln Byrd, Myrna
Byrd. Louise, Ina and Edna Yockel,
Marylin Voung, Lois Bell, Hazel Par
men and Joan Helm.

Mrs. Lawrence Wagner
Leaves for New York City.
Mrs. Lawrence Wagner, of New
York City, left this morning on the
.Shasta, en route to her home, where
she will Join her husband after an
extended visit in Medford at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Brown.
Mrs. Wagner will also visit with rela
tives en route east, stopping In
North Dakota, Minnesota and De-troit.
To Organize Society

and girls of grades 6, 7 and 8 win I Saturday, December 8, at 10 o'clock

o'clock, It has been announced. As
the business women are among the
sponsors of the club, the board has
requested the meetings be held In
the club rooms. -

byterian church. This service will be
a candle light ceremonial, to which
all parents of members are invited.
A feature of the ceremonial will be
the signing of the Christian Endeavor
pledge.
The service la to be held in the
ladles' parlor. Special music Is to be
given by Weldon Slcan.
At the church service following
the pastor will speak on "The Chris
tian Endeavor Pledge." Junior-Intermediates
and their parents are cor
dially invited to remain for this ser
vice. College Women Meet
At School Tomorrow
Members of the Rogue River Valley
College Women!s club are to meet at
the Lincoln school Saturday after
noon, and all are requested to be
on time, promptly at 2:30 o'clock, as
the program will start at that hour,
Miss Ora Cox, principal of the Lin
coln school, has arranged a Christ
mas program for the afternoon,
which is to be presented by the Lin
coln school children.
Mrs. Maybello Church, who resides
at 309 East Jackson street, will be
hostess during the social hour, w-lth
Mrs. Mark Wright assisting her. Mrs.
Ralph Billings of Ashland is presi
dent of the organization.
Seymour Acting
In New York
Mrs. Clyde Seymour, who resides
near Los Angeles, and Is now In the
valley visiting her mother, Mrs. Mc
Namara, states that her son Richard
Seymour, who formerly resided in
Medford, is now in New York City,
and will appear In the new Peter
Arno show. "Pools Walk In," which
will open In New York the first of
the year.
Mr. Seymour has many friends in
Medford who will be glad to learn of
his work in the east. He previously
played in productions on the Pacific
coast, having been cast In the coast
production of "Grand Hotel.'
Community Club
Announces Meeting
BELLVIEW, Dec. 7. (Spl.) The
Upper Valley Community club will .
hold Its December meeting at the '
club house next Wednesday after
noon. Dev. 12. The business meeting
will begin at two o'clock.
The program in charge of Alice
Pagel and Alice Gowland promises to
be very interesting. It will begin with
Christmas carols followed ' by a
Christmas surprise for all the mem
bers of the club. At the close of this
Christmas party refreshments will
be served by the hostesses, Mrs. Edg
hill, Mrs. Willis Byrd and Mrs. Her
man Helm.

Will Meet Monday
Ladies of Klwanls will meet for
luncheon at one o'clock on Monday
afternoon, at the home of Mrs. John

group, by Mrs. C. M. Kldd. Mrs. C
H. Paske and Mrs. J. C. Thompson.
Relief Society
Announces Party.
The Relief society of the Churcn
of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints,
have announced plans fcr a "kid's
party' on Tuesday evening at 7:30
o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Chaun-
cey Lee Pierce, 1511 West Main street.
Mrs. Potter
In San Francisco.
Mrs. M. Milton Potter left Wednes
day evening on the Shasta for San
Francisco, where she plans to remain
for a few days.

work, the University of Oregon bas
ketball team defeated the strong
Southern Oregon Normal school bas
ketball team, 36 to J4. here last night.
The SONS, who held a 10 to 8 lead
early In the game, will have another
crack at Coach Billy Relnhart's Web
foots here tonight.
Willie Jones, Oregon's springy cen
ter, was high Acorer of the game with
14 points. Sam Lelbowltz, talented
sophomore guard, shone with hU
passes, four of which were assists or
feeders for field goals.

GOLD HILL. Dec. 7. (Spl.) On
Wednesday evening. November 28.
the Rebekahs elected the following
nfflcers for the ensuing six months:
Bertha Coy, noble grand; Belle
Smith. vice-grand; Madge Dorman,
secretary; Lucy Mee, treasurer.
They also had their November
birthday party. Games were played
and a good time enjoyed: refresh
ments were served late in the even
ing. November birthdays were Mrs.
Mary Chisholm, Mrs. Eleanor Foirc
and Mrs. Viola Moore.
Ilrldce Tournament
At Club Is Tonight.
The second bridge tournament
being sponsored by the Town club,
will be held this evening at 7:46
o'clock at the club house. Numerous
reservations have already been made
for the affair, and it is expected by
the committee in charge, that a
larger number will participate in the
affair, than In the previous tourney.
Duplicate and progressive bridge
will be In play during the evening.
Mrs. Gus Newbury Is chairman of
the committee in charge.

IS HERO OF FIRE
WILLITS. Cal., Dec. 7. The
heroic story of how a five-year-old
boy. locked alone in a burning house ,
with two younger sisters, fought lea
pt rate ly but unavalllngly amid the
flames to save the life of the small
est, a mere baby, after rescuing the
older, was told here today.
Neighbors found the lad, Richard
Graham. In tears, clutching his sis
ter Lucille, three, In front of the
smouldering remains of their home.
Prom his almost incoherent babbles
they were able to piece together his
story, when the fire broke out, Rica
ard broke a wl ndow and went for
help. No one was in the road, so he
returned to the house and led Lu
cille to safety.
Then he plunged- back again Into
the flames after baby Mona Lee, ono
year old. His strength was unequal
to the task of lifting her from htr
crib, and he waa finally forced to
flee for hi own life.
A delegation of Central Point citi
zens, residing on the Taylor road in
that district, called upon the county
court yesterday, and requested that
the road be oiled, graded and im
proved. The county court agreed to
"go 50-50" on the expense of oiling,
etc., and this was accepted by the
delegation.
The coming budget seta aside 93000
for oiling and road Improvement,
the coming year, the fund to be ex
pended on the co-operative basis.
Several other districts seeking road
oiling are expected to file similar
pleas with the county court, ere
spring.
