Thanksgiving Holds
Interest of Week,
For Med ford Folk
RECENT BRIDE
With Thanksgiving day Thura-
day holding the spotlight In thia
-week's plana, the majority of aoc
lety folk plan to apend that day
around their own firesides, few hav
ing arranged to leave trie city over
the holiday. Then too, students irom
the colleges and universities having
been looking forward to this day,
that they might return home for
a brief visit.
About that holiday many festivi
ties are being arranged however, in
cluding a number of dinner and
.dancing parties. On next Saturday
evening, the members of the Town
club are entertaining with a formal
dance at the club house, Mrs. B. L.
Lageaon having been named chair
man in charge of the affair.
On Thanksgiving day, a number
of club members will have dinner
at the club.
- Several interesting parties were
held there during the paat week,
with Mrs. L. A. Sulfide, Br., enter
taining with a bridge luncheon for
eight on Monday and again on Fri
day. She has also Invited eight
friends for bridge and luncheon to
morrow at the Town club.
Friday evening, there were sixty
persons la attendance at the Active
club's dinner dance, given at the
Town club.
During this week. t the Copco
Forum will have ft dinner party at
the club Tuesday, and on Saturday
Pan Hellenic will meet at the Town
club.
Mrs. Ous Newbury has been nam- j
ed chairman of the committee lor
another bridge tournament, which j
will be held at the club on Friday
evening. December 7. The previous
tournament conducted by the club
waa such a success that members
are anticipating the one early in
December.
Apollo to Present
Pupils in Program
An interesting recital is sched
uled for this coming Friday eve
ning, November 30 at eight o'clock,
when SebnHtian Apollo presents a
group of elementary and advanced
students In a program at the First
Christian church on South Oakdale
avenue.

Travel Study Club
The Travel Study club met at the
home of Mrs. - F. E. Albert, 435
Beatty street, Monday afternoon to
continue the study of Russia. Mrs.
F. R. Hagerty read an instructive
paper on religion, the orthodox and
Greek churches.
The church historically known as
the Eastern church, and now pop
ularly known as the Oreek church
Is the modern representative of the
Byzanthlne Empire and was station

west, waa more progressive and flex
ible. Many of Its adherents were

Mrs. F. Cummlngs reviewed the life
of Count Tolstoy, as disclosed by
his son. It portrays his father's at

of his countrymen to his beliefs
and his Ideals, a life of yearning,
striving,' and conflict.

the Wednesday Study club last week,
Mrs. M. M, Morris, chairman for the
nfternoon, presented an interesting
proffrnm, including the 'review of the
book "Racial Myth," by Powell Radin
which she gave.
The author of the book Is pro
fessor of anthropology at the Uni
versity of California and the book
has been written for s text in the
study of socialistic problems, ana
calls attention to the superiority
complex of the many nations, and
then refutes the idea or this claim.
He points out In the book that
there are no pure races.
Mrs. Morris gave a clear, compre
hensive view of the book, that
showed keen conception of the subject.

mlsrr.tlon Control." by Henry Pratt

from the report of the special com
mittee on immigration by Dr. Harry
Lauphlln of Carnegie Institute,
showing various rensons why Immi
gration control is very essential. The

manner.

The Women's Missionary society of
the Presbyterian church met at Mrs.
George's, 204 South Ivy street, on
Tuesday afternoon for their annual
thank offering snd praise service
program.

devotional program, assisted by Mrs.
Esther Sanderson singing a loyely
Thanksgiving solo.
The guest speaker. Mrs. F. Ban
croft, a retired member of the Nat
ional Mission Board and now living
near Grants Pass, brought ft very

charge of the annual homecoming to

The Junior High P.-T. A., was
hostess last week to the Medford
City Council of P.-T. A., with thirty
guests present. Mm. Purdln was as
sisted by Mesdames Campbell, Rlne
barger and Horner.
A business session followed and
the Jackson school reported a well
attended "daddies' night." The
! school kitchen has been re-equlp-ped
and brightened with new cur
tains and new dishes. They an
nounced that lunches are now being
served to children. This Is one ol
their big projects for the year.
The Washington school announc
ed an active month's work- and ISO
parents attended their dinner, given
for the "daddies night."
The Junior high school has sl
lowed G0 in the budget for equip
ment for the Junior high school
band music, a drum, and enough
new- capes in school colors to com
plete their costumes. They announc
ed a room at the carnival k where
parents could eat and rest while
waiting for their children. The
money raised was given to the
school for student body funds.
The possibility of a nursery school
In Med ford was d iscussed and a
committee appointed with Mrs. W.
G. Carl as chairman, to Investigate
the need.
