emitted this classical little gem on
the subject: "Little Vanderbllt un

uninvited."
The same situation haa often pre

endeavors to remove a small bit of
the "myth" from the "mythical state

other contenders exhibiting the trick-

Means Portland Game
With the Hood Rlver-Medford game
on the booka for Saturday, It seem
logical that one of the two team

IN ELKS BOWLING
Weeks and Orr and the City Clean,

Elks bowling tourney, according to
figures compiled by the committee,
Including matches of last week. Three
teams Strang's Drug Store, Stude

third place with the balance of-the

Hal Halght maintains a two-point
margin for leadership In individual
standings, closely pressed by Roy

the Ashland Normal frosh and twice
by the powerful Eureka, Cal.. squad.
The first game ended in a 0-0 tie
and Medford won the second, 18-14.
In those eight games the Black
Tornado has a ma wed the astound Ins
total of 313 points to their oppo
nent' 30. And none of their games
were "setups," picked at the start of
the season for obvious weakness.
Hood River boasts a record of I'M
points to their opponents' none, ln
the last seven games played. Excuse
me for being obvious, but that means
that their goal line haa been un
crossed, an Impressive record, But
Medford fans, in viewing that record,
can't seem to let this hang too heav
ily upon them, in view of the fact
that the Hood River goal line has
never had Ohelardl, Bates, Smith,
Kuneman, Hlnman or Severson

Estei Can Plunge
And, speaking of knocking to get
In, reminds us that Estei the Tor
nado's man killer, can do bit of
knocking on his own account, If the
situation seems to demand It of him.
In Saturday's game with Grants
Pass, ths big guard was called upon
to buck over a try -for -point. Using
no deception whatever, Estei lined up
behind the line in the fullback posi
tion while Young took his position
tn the line. The ball was snapped,
and Estes exploded. At least that's
what It looked like from the two-bit
eata where this Individual was en
sconced. Hs dynamited Into the
Grants pass line, which broke like
ft! ass, and had soma difficulty In
hauling up short enough to avoid
lnfl'etjnj? serious Injury to the goal
posts, several parked cars and th
kids parked on the back fence.
Cosch Burgher may decide to har
ness this Irresistible force for the
Hood River game and. If that hap
pens. It will probably be safest to
Isolate the entire sone of encum
brances for safety's sake.
An Interesting sidelight on the
(tarn Is the letter reproduced in the
Oreponlan last week, written by Ja.
A. Carr, coach of the apple knockers.
Besides developing good teams, this
pentleman also seems to have a flair
for sarcasm. Inasmuch as ha att4
that one of Hood River's main attri
butes In the fact that they have been
unprotested all year. He also states
that, but walr; I'l let you read
what he says himself.

In view of this remark on Mr
Carr's part, the writer has a strong
suspicion that something from Hood

It will be a test of a scientific

scrupulous exponent, who keeps his

he has left a trail of defeated oppo

and alugglng are the chief offensive
tactics practiced by the mystic mm

an experienced holdater as well.
In the semi-final event Al Karaslck

for an hour or two out of three falls
with Hans Shultr, Oerman bone
