girl is at liberty to choose. The a4
vantage of this classification Is ob
vious. All girls have certain needs and.
desires In common. They are full ot
energy, eager for fun. Intent on find
ing an outlet for the enthuaiams of
the moment. On the other hand, eacb.
girl has tastes and abilities peculiar
to herself alone. As a Girl Scout she
has spread before her a wide rang
of novel and varied acuities, from
which ah may pick those that most
appeal to her.
The key activities of the program
seek to give the girl that self-reliance
that comes of knowing how to met
practical problems in a practical man
ner. They are divided into five mam
classes; namely, camping, woodcraft
activities and Nature lore, homemak
ing, health and first aid. and Com
munity service. In addition to th
key activities there are a group of
fLfty-two proficiency badges along
specific lines which the scouts mar
work on.
There are three Court of Awards
during the year t which class ranks
and proficiency badges are awarded.
These courts are public.
One hundred girls were able to take
ad ventage of this last summer's camp
held at the Lake of th Woods. Many
of the girls made advancement In na
ture work, handicraft, and swimming.
Every precaution was taken to safe
guard scouts taking part In the wat
erfront activities.
Good deeds and community services
are a part of the lives of all Girt
Scouts. During the Christmas holidays
many lives are brightened by cheer
ful girl scouts who gather food and
clothes for needy ones. The singing
of Christmas carols has become n
