Have Busy Week
Early last week members of the
Pythian club entertained their grand
chief, Mrs. Barbara Graves of Port
land, who made her visit to Med ford
Upon her arrival last Saturday she
waa entertained at carda that even
ing at the home of Mra. E. J. Klein,
five tables being In play.
On Sunday, she was entertained at
dinner by Mrs. Edward Webber of
this city, who Invited a. number of
the Pythian slaters to her home. The
group then went to Ashland, where
a reception waa given Mrs. Oraves by
the Ashland sisters.
On Monday, a luncheon waa given
at the Hotel Mcdford In the small
dining room with 35 members In at
tendance, from Grants Pass, Ashland
and Med ford. The group then ad
journed to the homo of Mra. Mabel
Helmroth for bridge.
Monday evening, the regular work
of the temple waa exemplified In the
Pythian hall and an Interesting talk
by Mrs. Oraves waa enjoyed.
Mrs. Oravea returned to her home
In Portland Tuesday morning by motor.

School Has Meeting
The P.-T. A. of the Jackson school
met In regular session Prtday after
noon, Rodeny Wheelok opening tho

grade entertained with Hallowe'en
songs, led by Roger Wolf. J. B. Colo
man, county assessor, spoke on the
two major defects of the 30 mill tu
limitations bill, and Mrs. Harry Ol
sen, health chairman, reported that

ned In the new kitchen.

Daughters The Nile
One of the most elaborate cere mo
nlala ever staged in southern Oregon
by Zulelma Temple waa puf on by
the Daughters of the Nile Friday af
ternoon In the Ashland Masonic tern
pie, with Mra. T. P. Franco of that
city, queen of the temple, presiding
8he waa assisted by her officers, the
uniformed patrol and the chorus,
robed In patrol colors. Nineteen can
didates received the degree and dur
ing the session a short program was
I presented.
Two readings were given by Mrs
F. K. Baker of Orants Pass, and Miss
Dorothy Reynolds of Ashland gave
two whistling solos, accompanied at
the piano by Mlas Ruth Severance.
Following the ceremonial a ban
quet for the members and their es
corts was given, and songa by the
patrol and chorua were enjoyed.
Elaborate decorations were arrang
ed in the hall, with the oriental set
ting emphasized by the large baskets
of colored psmpaa grass. There were
also many peautlful fall flowers.
Members of the decorations com
mittee were Mesdames Enders, Mc
Nnlr, Hardy, Claycombe, Haines. Dean,
Anderson and Loomla. The table com
mittee was' Mesdamea Bateman Vau
pell, Newbry and Wolters. The table
waa arranged In the form of a harvest
festival with pumpkins and autumn
decorations. The banquet was ar
ranged by Mrs. C, L. Reynolds of
Ashland.
The dance committee waa Mesdames
Parrett, Rlckert, Stearns, Spauldln;
of Orants Pass, and Sparr of Ashland.
Visitors were In attendance from
Sacramento and Portland temples,
and members of the local temple at
tended from Lakevlew, Klamath Fall.

The Catholic card party waa a plejs
ant affair Wednesday evening when
Mra. Devaney, chairman of the com
mittee invited the men to assist In
securing a crowd.
Twelve tables were In play. Refresh
ments wore served by Ray Lewis, Jo
Marshall and their assistants. Prizes
were awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Bee.

University Club To
Entertain Thursday
On Thursday evening. November 1,
the University club will entertain for
members and guests cwt the club
house on West Main, with dinner,
followed by colored movies, put on by
Raymond E. Driver, and bridge. This
la the first of a series of social events
to be put on by the officers of the
club during the winter season.

masked may do so. There will be a
prize for the best costume.
A small admission will be charged
and a free lunch will be served, Jack
sonville Grange ladles are to bring
two pumpkin plea.
Melng the first big social event this
group has undertaken for several
months, each member Is looking, for
ward to Wednesday evening with a
great deal of pleasure.
The Grange held Its regular meet
ing Friday night. There was a small
attendance, nevertheless It was an ex-1
oeptlonally Interesting meeting. The
officers seating drill work was put on
for the first time, and games were
played, songs sung, and ghost stories
told, around the table. Refreshments
