SILVER AGAIN
"ITOULD you like to top danc-
' lug?" Lon Inquired solicitously.
. "No," ibe answered, "not ever."
"That'i all right with me," Lon
answered. "I might speak to the or

laughing.

Marian understood. Mow that his
wife's desertion had created the bit
torncss which seemed to bring
money in its wake, she wasn't there
to share the one thing that would
have hold her loyal to him.

futile efforts to catch even a crooked

"You needn't be," he said, then
added a moment later. "1 wish It
were as easy to coach people In life,

shrugged his shoulders.

Camp Wlmer, located about three
mile from that town In the Rogue
River area, waa occupied Friday by
Company 064, CCC, which transferred
for the winter from the summer alt
at Agncss on Rogue river, district
headquarters announced.

Overman, Howard C. Beals and Frank

Camp Steamboat In the Fort Doug
las district of Wyoming, ts now t
Camp Oasquet on the coast, and with
nine men Is preparing for the occu
pation of the camp. There are to be
198 local experienced men of northern
California enrolled for the company.
Baggage and equipment for the camp
is arriving by freight at Grants Pass
this week.
Company 1634, which has been sta
tioned at Camp Wineglass In Crater
Lake national park during the sum
mer, will occupy the Oregon Caves
site on October 22.
iThc advance cadre of one officer
and 15 men Is now at the Clear Creek
camp site In northern California.
Baggage and impediment for tho
company Is scheduled to arrive at
Hornbrook on October 20.

FOR RELIEF NEED
WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 (AP) The
federal surplus relief corporation
awarded contract! today for 4,75,-000
pounds of natural American cheese
to be distributed through relief chan
nels. Harry P. Hopkins, president of
the relief corporation, said that the
awards were based on the cheese
markets at Plymouth, Wis., and San
Francisco.
Deliveries will be made during No
vember, December, January or Feb
ruary or during all of the months.
The cheese, of No. 1 grade, will be
Inspected by gradehs of the depart
ment of agriculture.
The awards Include:
American Produce company, Port
land, Ore.; 60,000 pounds.
Tillamook County Creamery asso
ciation, Tillamook, Ore.; 600,000
pounds,

blade or grass, but lived solely for I
science on "synthetic diet." ended I
their lives with a perfect health rec-1
ord. Their slaughter, the ordinary
end of all good sheep, was announced J
Saturday night.
If sheep have pains, theae appar
ently djd not. They escaped even th
troubles from one of the most com
mon of parasites which Is found In
almost all the aheep of this region.
The finish of the experiment was
announced at the animal nutrition
laboratory of Cornell university. The
sheep were raised by Dr. L. L. Msd-
sen. There were two of them and !
they were a year and a half old. j
They were fed a "synthetic" mix- ;
ture of casein, the solid part of milk '
cellulose " which came from grea. j
chemical mills, starch, vitamin con-1
centrales and salts. The salts In
cluded essential minerals. I
They matured rapidly.
"From abservatlons on these anl-!
mala." the report stated, "it !s
thought that these new diets may af- (
ford novel methods of freeing sheep
from the usual parasites."
