INITIATION PARTY

On Friday evening, October 8, the
annual Girls League Initiation party
vu held at the high school for all
new girls.
The party was a "kids party, In
which no one appeared to be over
six. The costumes added much to
the hilarity of the occasion.
Formal initiation was held In the
auditorium, where the officer Intro
duced the laws and dutlea which the
members of Girls' League should up
hold. The auxiliary committee, under
Virginia Lindley, chairman, conduct
ed the Informal initiation in the
boys' gymnasium. After being rolled
In barrels, having their faces smear
ed with flour and other similar in
dignities, the girls felt themselves i
thoroughly initiated.
Entertainment was provided by the j
work of the committee established
for this purpose under Mary Kem .
Those taking part were: Mary Ann 1
Gates, vocal solo; Virginia Loomls ,
and Audrey Dobson. saxophone duet j
Janice Shreve, Catherine Ford, Elaine
Brophy and Barbara Holt, tap
dance; Fr ankle Rtnabarger, tap
dance.
The remainder of the evening wrs
pent In dancing and playing games.
Refreshment were served by Aud
rey Dobson and her committee.

The answer seta forth that the
Carles are operators of a poultry farm
In the Valley View district. It Is
admitted, that Stevens shot the do,
upon the orders of Mrs. Garle, and
that F. E. Garle, the husband, knew
nothing about it. The slaying of the
dog occurred, the answer cites, "In
the protection of property, and after
the limit of patience had been ex
hausted." tt Is further set forth that the
Gar lea and Stevens had made an ef
fort to catch the Ottinger dog and
Impound him, but he was too elusive.
Two dogs that accompanied the Ot
tinger dog on alleged chlckenhousi
raids, also got away. Following the
loss of 32 chickens in a week, a watch
was kept upon the chtckenhouse, and
when three dogs appeared, Stevens
killed two. Including the Ottinger
dog. while the third escaped.
The defendants denied they slew
with malice or wantonness, but sim
ply In protection of property and. sole
means of livelihood. They alao as
sert that the Ottinger dog "Is not
worth 11000 or any sum whatsoever."
In a counter claim, the defend
ants ask $37.50 the value of the de
stroyed pullets, and that the costs
of the action be assessed to the plain
tiffs. 4
