Extension Tnlt to Mt
At Home of Mn. C. E. Bom
The Boxy Ann Extension unit will
meet Friday. Oct. 12, at the home of
Mrs. O. Z. Row. The meeting will
begin at 10 a. m., and will be the
flret time work will be done on the
fulde pattern. Members are urged to
come prepared with sewing materials,
and are asked to bring needles, pins,
thimbles, colored thread, tape mea
sure, ruler or yardstick. Each should
also bring two and one-half or three
yards of firmly woven checked ging
ham for the foundation pattern. A
covered dish luncheon will be served,
with members asked to bring their
own covered dishes and table service.
All in the community who are inter
ested are Invited.
Juvenile Club Has
Interesting Meeting
The Juvenile Degree of Honor club
held an Interesting meeting Saturday
afternoon in the women's club rooms
In the city hall, with Catherine Camp
bell, president. In change. Mrs. Ida
M. Wilson, director, talked enllght
lngly on the club's work. Refresh
ments of cookies and candy were serv
ed. and games were played. The meet
ing wss dismissed early to allow mem
bers to attend the Medford-Roseburj;
football game. An important change
In the meeting time of the organiza
tion was made Saturday, when it was
decided that the club will meet twice
each month, on the first and third
Saturdays.

Arrive from Portland
Mr. and Mrs. w. a. Mlksche and
little daughter, Sandra Ann, arrived
from Portland Wednesday to visit
with Mrs. Mtksche's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. D. M. Watt of Phoenix, and other
relatives.
Dr. Charles I. Harvey and his moth
er, Mrs. Rosell Harvey of San Fran
cisco, were week-end guests of Mrs.
Harvey's sister and niece. Mrs. Laura
A. King and Mrs. Watt.

guests of Mr. and Mrs. Watt.
October Committee
Plans Hard Time Party
The October committee of the Olive
Robekah lodge, number 28, is plan
ning a meeting Monday, Oct. 15.
which Is regular social night. The
meeting will be in the form of a hard
time party, and all those who are
dressed up will be fined. Visitors are

Plans potlurk Pinner
The Crater Lake Christian Endeavor
Union will have a potluck dinner at a
rally Friday night at the Christian
church In Granta Pass. Opal Rush
of Ashland, union president, will be
in charge of the mating, which will
begin at 7 p. m.. It will be the first
of two rallies for the convention to
be held November 16, 17 and 18, at
Grants Pass.

To Attend Thursday Meet
All W. C. T. U. members' are urged
to attend the regular meeting Thurs
day at the Girls' Community club, as
It will be the last meeting to be held

service was well attended and an in

The Young People's Christian En
deavor society of the First Christian
church has elected officers for the
coming year, with Miss Marjorle Greg
ory as president; David Beck, vice
president; Naomi Fraley, secretary;
Earl McQulgg, treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Childreth
were named advisors for the group,
and the officers will meet with them
at their home on Friday evening, to
appoint committees for the year.
Daughters of Veterans
To Have Meeting Tonight
The Daughters of Union Veterans of
the Civil War will have a covered dish
supper tonight, beginning at 6:30,
after which an inspection of the tent
will be made by the state inspector,
according to announcement.

Senator Frederick Stclwer (R.( Ore.)
today declared that while business
this year has been disappointing to
many, he Is convinced that the gen
ernl trend is toward improvement.
Here today on a business trip, he
said recent labor disturbances which
tied up Industry In many sections
were the chief reasons for the tieup.
Stelwer predicted that with strike
settlements, a general quickening of
business activity will be noted.
MUSSOLINI'S RISE
TOPIC OF BISHOP
AT ROTARY MEET
Benito Mussolini, the most talked
of man In Europe" today, and his
much-debated "Fascism" were dis
cussed at today's meeting of the Med
ford Rotary club by Lee Bishop. Many
of the pertinent sayings and writings
of the dynamic Italian were quoted
by Bishop in his impartial talk which
reviewed Mussolini's sensational rise
to power in European affairs and the
theory of his radically different
method of government.
In introducing his subject, the
speaker quoted the famous Italian In
saying that the so-called Fascist party
Is a movement against other parties.
rather than a party itself. He told
of the formation of the corporate
state and described Mussolini's his
toric march on Rome after telling of
his political background and the faith
of his followers.
"Fascism does not believe In peace,"
Bishop quoted from Mussolini in
pointing out that Italy's virtual dic
tator is firm in his belief that war is
necessary in "steeling" men. Bishop
reminded the Rotarians of Musso
lini's recent edict that boys In their
teens must be trained In army tactics.
Mussolini's writings In which he
described the fallacies of a democracy
were read by the speaker, who quoted
the Italian In describing a democratic
form of government as a "government
of mass irresponsibility. Fascism 1.
In Mussolini's oplnton, the type of
government In which the best of other
forms are Incorporated. It has, he
said, a "will and personality." whereas
a democracy Is "cumbersome.''
While fascism Is subject to wide
debate. Bishop pointed out that It had
achieved a certain balance between
capital and labor, while obviously cur
tailing a personal liberty.

were mentioned by Lee In the con
clusion of his very Interesting ad
dress. William Cook of Alameda and Art
Brown of Portland were visiting Ro
tarians at today's meeting.
