Suspensions Continued Orders

or night of April 3, 1032, when 'Jafsle'
handed the box of ransom money over
a cemetery hedge to a man resembling
Hauptmann.
"On further Interrogation, It Is said,
the man and woman gave authorities
some important information regard
ing Hauptmann and his friends, the
nature of which has not been dis
closed. Officials have indicated, how
ever, that this Information has a vital
bearing on the damaging case being
constructed against Hauptmann by
the prosecution."
CHICAGO, Oct. 2. ( AP) A civil
engineer today said he saw Bruno
Hauptmann within a few miles of
the Lindbergh home the night of the
kidnaping of the Lindbergh baby.
The engineer Is William B. Dennis,
49, and he told newspapermen he
would repeat his assertions to a Jury.
The alleged meeting with Haupt
mann, Dennis asserted today, was a
mere quirk of circumstance. He was
driving with his wife near Princeton.
N. J., and had lost his way when a
man flagged him to a stop.
The man, he said he is positive, was
Bruno Hauptmann. The appearance
was Identical: the voice was gutteral,
of Oerman accent.
With the man. who he said had
stopped him to borrow a pump to In
flate a tire, was a woman a decided
blonde. He said he has not connected
the woman with the photograph of
any of Hauptmann'a companions he
has been shown. ,
Dennis said theie was a third per
son In the Hauptmann machine
man or woman In the rear seat. Either
the person carried a large bundle or
was very fat, he snld, as a blanket
drawn across the waist protruded no
ticeably. This, Dennis Bald, was about 9:15
o'clock the night of March 1, 1032.
The Lindbergh baby was kidnaped
some time between 8 :30 and 10 p. m.
Federal agents questioned and took
a statement from Dennis early today.

The American league champions,

one of the most uproarious rooting
sections In the last decade of baseball
warfare. They call It the "team of
destiny" hereabouts, but it will take
plenty of base-hits and strong-armed
hurling to give Old Man Destiny a
decision over the oncoming "miracle
men" of St. Louis, heroes of one of
the greatest uphill triumphs In the
history of the game.
Odds On Cards
Betting men today favored the
Cardinals to pick up where the New
York Giants left off a year ago and
keep the world championship In the
National league. On the basis of the
cold figures and all analysis of the
comparative "dope" It appeared likely
to be a knock. -down-and -drag-out
fight, but such was the confidence in
the present momentum of the St.
Louis outfit that many close observ
ers looked for a short, decisive en
gagement, with the Dean brothers In
the leading rote. In gambling par
lance, the Cardinals are unquestion
ably the ' hot choice" until actual
events on the ball field prove to the
confesary.
