FINAL MEET FOR
EAGLES BOY CLUB
A meeting of boys between the
ages of 14 and 31 will be held next
Wednesday evening at 7:30 at the
Eagles lodge for the purpose of com'
pletlng plans for the organisation of
an athletic club, It waa announced
by jack Hueston yesterday.
A similar meeting was held last
Wednesday, at which time about 35
boys were present, and objectives of
the athletlo club were explained by
representatives of the Eagles. A num
ber of persons Interested In boys'
welfare work were present and ex
pressed pleasure that the Eaglea lodge
would sponsor such a movement In
this city.
It will be the purpose of the Eagles
to organize immediately three groups
of basketball teams and possibly oth
er athletlo groups. The groups will,
In all probability, be allocated to
the east, west and southern portion
of the city, directly arrangements
have been made for floors upon
which the boya can play basketball,
Coach Burgher of the Medford
high school, who attended laat Wed
nesday's meeting, stated that the pro
Ject being sponsored by the Eagles
was the finest that could be devel
oped In this city, as It kept the boys
active, provided healthy recreation
and had a tendency to build charac
ter and leadership.
Larry Scbade, who for many years
has been vitally concerned In boya'
welfare work in this city, stated that
It was the biggest thing that could
happen here and was something that
he had hoped for many years would
be brought about.
Capt. O. R. Durham of the Salva
tion Army, who also attended the
meeting, pledged his co-operation, as
It has been a dream of his ever slfioa
he came to Medford.
Many officers of the Eagles' lodge
gave short talks. Including George
Tucker, the chaplain of the local
aerie, who organised a similar pro
ject in British Columbia when he
was bayonet and physical Instructor
in the Canadian army.
A number of the boys present ex
pressed pleasure that such a club wu
being organized, and Jack Hueston,
who acted as chairman, appointed
from the boys a commute of three
to work with the Eagles' committee.
Those selected were: Alva Merrltt,
Ray Offord and Price Shaffer.
It had been previously announced
by the Eagles that the ages for mem
bershlp would be 10 to 31, but this
was changed at the meeting to 14 to
31. It la expected that a bigger group
of boya will b present Wednesday,
when all the details In connection
with the proposed organisation wilt
be thoroughly explained and set In
motion.
