The Crater Lake guild of the Flrat
Presbyterian church will hold lt an
nual fall banquet Monday evening,

On Saturday, September 23 a no
host picnic was enjoyed at Miss Sara
Van Mtcr'e cabin near Rogue Elk
hotel.
Twenty-three were present for
luncheon at one o'clock with a
goodly number staying for a welner
roast around the outdoor fireplace
at night. Aside from this, hiking and
bridge were the entertainment for tne
aflernoon.

Of Medford Meets
At Baptist Church
The first meeting of the Women's
Missionary Federation waa held In
the Baptist church Friday afternoon,
with Mrs. Oeorge Kabele, the presi
dent, in charge. She offered the In
vocation and Mrs. E. E. Wilson, as
president of the Bnptlst Ladles' Mis
s'lonary society, extended greetings to
the visiting societies on behalf of the
Baptist group. Mrs. A. J. Hanby re-
aponded with a brief message of ap
preciation.
During the business session, min
utes of the organization meeting held
In February during the World Diiy of
Prayer, were read, and Mrs. Weathrr
ford was elected vlce-prealdent to fill
the vacancy caused by the moving to
Portland of Mra. LaRose.
The newly framed constitution for
the federation was read and Its adop
tion will be made at the next Word
Day of Prayer In February.
The ladles of the Missionary so
ciety of the First Christian church
presented the program, wun Mrs.
Fred J, Wllmot. president. In charge.
She gave a brief outline of the work
In that church for the past sixty
years, and Mra. W. R. Bslrd gave the
devotions, choosing for her scripture
lesson Mathew J:13-l and Hebrews
13:1-2,
Mrs. Balrd brought a most inspir
ing message and the need of a tinned
effort on the part of the churches to
bring the word of Christ to all peo
ple, was pointed out. Miss Oenevleve
Brown and Mrs. Ralph coo sang
"Chrlstea Love Bndureth Forever."
Mra. Marsh led In prayer, and Mrs
Young of Central Point sang "Faith
of Our Mothers." Mrs. R. L. Ray's
division of the Christian churcn
group presented a playlet, "Miss Mar
tha Van Winkle Wakea Up."
The play centered about M! Van
Winkle, who had been asleep for al
most sixty years, Just after the or
ganlnttlon of the christian Women's
first missionary society In October of
1814. with only U members.
Now there are over 100.00 mem
bers, with missionaries In all forelsn
fields and over 3000 societies In the
United States.
Participating In the play were Mrs
Kindred, Miss Van Winkle: Mrs. V
C. Latham, the modern mother; and
Mra. 1. H. Oove, the modern daugh
ter. Mra. Wllmot closed the meet
ing with the eoclery'a benediction.
During the social hour the ladies
of the Baptist church served tea and
cakes, with Mesdames Boshear and
Raymond Crawford pouring, and Mra
dames Shatter and B- M. Wilson as
sisting. About eighty ladles were
present.
The next meeting will be held In
February with the Christian church

sociation met at the school on Fri
day, September 38, for th first meet
ing of the year.

Jackson county board of SERA, In a

alma and told of the accomplish
ments of the varioua organlzatlona
working In the Interest of child wel
fare throughout the county. Among
these were the 4-H clubs, Olrl and
Boy Scouts. Salvation Army. Eagles.
Welfare bureau, Olrla' Community
club, Business and Professional Wom
en's club, Rotarlana, Ktwanlans, high
school, Parent-Teachers, D. A. R. and
the Public Health association.
Pupils of the muslo department of
the school entertained with aeveral
vocal and Instrumental numbers.
The "pound party" proved suc
cess and many staple groceries were
added to the lunch room larder.

son, and her staff of elected officers
were selected aa delegates to repre
sent the organization at the regional
convention to be held on October 16

ber 1, Mrs. I. B. Schuler will con
duct her first class for this year in
drama,. Anyone Interested who did
not enroll, may do so Monday eve
ning. On Wednesday evening, October .
at 7:30 at the club house, Mrs. Mark
Wright will have her first class in
arts and crafts. Enrollment la still
open In this activity.
