LEONARD'S STAFF
Fred Underwood, well known Med
ford automobile service man, has
Joined the staff of Ohet Leonard's
Super Service, according to an an
nouncement made by Mr. Leonard this
week. Mr. Underwood will become
one of the operators of Chet Leonard's
number 3 station, located at Sixth
and Grape streets, with Jnck Hughes
as the other operator of this well
known station.
Fred Underwood enterr-d the auto
mobile service field In August, 1020,
at Chet Leonard's super service sta
tion at Riverside and Jackson streets.
After Intensive training for a few
months under Mr. Leonard's personal
supervision, Underwood became Iden
tified with another Medford orontwu
tton, and his recent training has in
cluded a special service course In Los
Angeles. He has established an en
viable reputation for capable, cour
teous work, and has many southern
Oregon friends, who are wishing him
(niece In his new business venture
with the Chet Leonard organization.

Job's Daughters Pane '
lilds Farewell to Many
The Jftb's laughters' formal fare
well dance tonight at the Knights of
Pythias hall will be a farewell party
for many members of Medford's
younger set, who will be leaving this
week-end to attend University of Ore
gon, Oregon Stat college and other
schools. A large attendance la ex
pec ted, as each member Is allowed to
send out two Invitations. A dan?
committee has selected Dad Dynge's
orchestra for the event, which will
start at 8:30 o'clock.
Arrangements are being made by a
committee composed of the Misses
Everetta GUesple, queen of the Med
ford chapter; Mary Kem, Peggy Betcr
and Pasty Smith.
At a meeting of the Job's Daugh
ters, held last night. It was announc
ed thst the state grand guardian, Mrs.
Erlckson of Portland, will be tn Med
ford In October. Committed were
appointed and plans were made to
hold a banquet in her honor, upon
her visit to the local district.
Town Club Members Urged to
Make Reservations for Dance
Members of the Town club are urged
to telephone for reservations for the
fall dinner danoe to be given Satur
day evening at the new club home,
the former Wm. Vawter residence on
West Main.
Calls may be made to the club head
quarters, which will be the scene of
one of the season's largest social func
tions tomorrow night. Mrs. Wm. Vaw
ter, Mrs. George Roberts and Mrs.
David Rosenberg are In charge of the
arrangements, which will provide for
the entertainment of more than 150
families.

Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Whltelaw will
entertain guests at their home tonight
with a dinner and card party, to be
given In honor of Mr. and Mrs. F. C j
Merrill of Palneavllle. Ohio. Mr. and
Mrs. Merrill arrived In Medford Wed
nesday, and plan to remain until the
end of next week as guests at the
Whltelaw home.
Those who will be present at the
dinner tonight are Mr. and Mrs. Al
Anderson, Mrs, Mildred St. John, Ed
ward Turnqulst, Mr. and Mrs. White-
law and Mr. and Mrs. Merrill.
Pioneer Society
To Hold Reunion
The Southern Oregon Pioneer so
ciety will hold Its B8th reunion In
the court house at Jacksonville on
Thursday, October 4, according to an
nouncement received today. The
meeting will begin at 10:30 a. m.
Members are asked to bring well-
flllcd baskets of food, and furnish
cups, spoons, plates, forks and tablo
cloths. The society will furnish cof
fee, cream, sugar and ice cream.

NEW YORK, Sept. 21. ( AP) The
stock market turned upward today
and gains of 1 to around 3 points
predominated after a rather slow
first hour. While the merchandising
Issues led the advance, demand lor
other groups Improved substantially.
The close was firm. Transfers ap
proximated 720.000 shares.
The list spparently reflected a bet
ter brand of re8ll business news and
expectations that the textile walkout
may be settled quickly. Freight at
loadings for the week ended Septem
ber 16 showed more than seasonal
gain of 83,258 cars over the previous
week.
