Calling of the grand Jury for the
term of the circuit court, scheduled
for Monday, September 2, will be de
layed a day or so, according to Dla-
trlct Attorney Qeorfte A. codding, ow
Ing to the inability of two of the
grand Jurors to be present until later.

Few matters are scheduled to come
before the grand Jury, owing to
hill on the criminal aide of the lexal
fence, the past three months. Two
ortmlnal syndicalism charges are
scheduled. Fred Pugh, former resi
dent of Josephine county, was arrest
ed 10 days ago, for sale and distribu
tion of communistic literature, advo
cating the overthrow of the American
form of government. James Stock
man of this city, arested last July
for possession of "red" literature, faces
the same charge. Stockman was ar
rested following efforts of transient
agitators to gain a foothold here dur
ing the fruit season.
J. Noel Colby of Grants Pass, mar
ried, bound over to the grand Jury on
a statutory charge Involving a H
year-old Jacksonville girl, is also
scheduled to appear before the grand
Jury at its next session. Colby was
bound over to the grand Jury at a
preliminary hearing before Justice of
the Peaoe William It. Coleman.
Other cases awaiting grand Jury
Action Include that of T. J. Enright,
attorney, charged with driving while
under the Influence of Intoxicating
liquor. Preliminary hearing was
waived.

Junior Off to College
With Glinting Toe-Nails

Junior Portr, green toenaJli and
all, left today for school at Eugene,
and before leaving evinced some
alarm at the way he had been "feet
ed" by the Tlrbune before hi de
parture. Madly clutching a bottle of
green toe shellac In one hand, and
another of blue bulging from a coat
pocket, Porter wallinely announced
that he bed an express purpose In
paJntlng hla pedal appendages the
bizarre color, and expreseed a feeling
that when It waa understood by the
populace, they would no longer con
sider Ms action as a reflection upon
his sex, as some people seemed prone
to do.
The whole thing started this way:
Junior has always had trouble with
his feet. His feet hurt. His feet per
spire. His feet burn. This condition
has prevailed long enough, thought
"June-Bug," and It was About time
he did something about It. "Nevy"
Blden, that sterling young cobbler,
suggested sandals. "June-Bug" de
murred. He was a man. He was
tough. He had a heavily bewhlskered
Jowl to prove this. "But;" suggested
Nevy, "ln't that Just the reason why
you could get away with It. where an
effeminate person cwuld not?"
This argument finally swayed the
cherubic Junior. In fact, he began
to have Ideas of his own. A huge
smile overspread his moonlike fea
tures, as he went a step further In
his thinking, and decided, "if sandals,
why not go ahead and make the dif
ference even more emphatic?" Ift
sandals would not be questioned, why
not also paint the good old nalU?
Not red. as the gals do. but green?
Or red? Of purple? Or, for that mat
ter, green and yellow, which are his
school colors?
Thus was born the idea of a green
nail, with a huge yellow "moon," to
be worn strictly at campus functions.
That was, however, merely an after
thought, and Junior finally whispered
in the reporter's ear the real reason
for the departure from standard toe
equipment. Not his to try to sat a
new fashion. Not hla to throw asper
sions upon the male sex, and smirch
Its good name. Indeed, nol Junior's
purpose was merely this: Junior is
carrying on a one-man war against
the vanity of women, in wearing the;r
red polish. For any women who have
witnessed the ghastly success of ttw
"June-Bug's" paint Job, it should be
quite eirective.
