Social Calendars
During Past Week
Although the sir has been a bit
more brisk the post week, with a
hint of loll In the air and a re
minder that the gala activity of aut
umn Is rapidly approaching, little
entertaining has been on the social
calendar for Medford.
Many clubs held the first meeting
of their new year, and the Daugh
ters of the American Revolution con
ducted a district convention here on
Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Noyes and
guests are enjoying several days at
"Swlltwater," their Rogue river lodue.
Mr. and Mrs. Noyes have been here
about two weeks, while Mr. and Mrs
W. O. Volkmann arrived on Friday.
The summer place of Mr. and Mrs.
Won Tucker, "Rogues Boost," Is
deserted this week, Mr. and Mrs.
Tucker flying eouth on Tuesday, and
their geusts having gone by train
and motor Monday evening. They will
remain in the San Francisco area for
the horse show this week-end, but
will return later In the week to the
Rogue River vnlley.
F. D. Madison, accompanied by a
trio from San Francisco arrived here
Saturday morning on the Bhasta to
spend a few days at the Madlpon

of Russia with a clear, comprehen-

Wilt Durant's book entitled, "The
Tragedy of Russia." When he sailed
for Russia in 1032, ho believed com
munism Russia's only salvation, but
nfter a month's stny, his one thought
was to cscnpe from what seemed to
him, a gigantic prison. This review
showed enreful preparation snd
brought to the attention of the list
eners, some of Russia's grave prob
lems. Many of the current events given,
centered around the deplorable relig
ious conditions of that country.

Sixty at Tea Given

The home of Miss Anne Livingston,
on the Old Stage road near Jackson
ville, was the setting ?or the silver
tea given Friday nfternoon by the St.
Mark's Guild, which reported the af
fair a great success.
There were sixty guests called dur
ing the afternoon for tea, and also
enjoyed a visit to Miss Livingston's
fine flower gardens.
