was reported firm with quotations
ranging 11 to 12 cents. Other meats
were fully steady with hogs alone
somewhat alow.
Although the local poultry market
was In a good position generally, some
lines have lost some of the strength
of the post two weeks. Springs were
more plentiful at 16 cents and heavy
herw likewise at U to 14'a cents. In
the turkey market old hens were
quotable at 17 to IS cents and old
toms at around 15 cents.

day coincident with a rather sharp
reaction In grains and further un
settlement of bonds. Losses of 1 to
3 or more points predominated. Some
of the ledgers recorded new lows for
the year or longer. The cfoso was
heavy. Transfers approximated 773,
000 shares.

THROUGH BUYING
The county court of Jnrkson has
Issued an order to the county for pur
chase of $80,000 ot Pacific Highway
and Crater Lake highway bonds from
the sinking fund. The bonds bear
five per cent interest, and their aver
age life is 12 years. Thus the county
will save in Interest, approximately
$36,000 in interest, over the life of
bonds.
County Judge Day said today that
tha county, for some time, has been
seeking to purchase Its own bonds,
as an "Investment," and through the
co-operation of local banks were able
to procure some.
The sinking fund amounts to ap
proximately 120,000, and hns been
drawing one-quarter i f one per cent
interest from local banks. The county
court held this was next to drawing
none at all. An Investigation of the
legal phases showed the county was
within Its right, and the bond pur
chnne was authorized.
County Judge Day also states that
following conferences with the state
tax commission, he expects to recom
mend to the county court that an
order be issued for acceptance of par
tial payment on delinqxient taxes.
Heretofore pnrtlnl payments have not
been accepted. A plan Is now being
worked out, which will bo made pub
lic when completed. It is held to be
helpluh both to the county, and the
taxpayer,

Williams grade and high schools bs-
gan the 1034-1035 term September 10.
The attendance lu nigh school was
20 and for th grade school 63. Mors
pupils are expected next week in
both sections. A. B, Collett and Miss
Mell E. Carter are the high school
teachers; Miss Ethel Boussum and
Miss Mildred Suva are the teachers in
the grades.
Mr. Collett Is staying at the Hart
ley home, Miss Boussum at the Geo.
