Andy Hooten celebrated his eightieth
birthday Sunday with a group of 37
friends at the Lyman place. Guests
included Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Spurlin,
E. T. Ham and Avena families of Gold
Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Jones of Portland.

and Mr. and Mrs. George Lyman.
John Cota and family are enjoying
a visit from Mr. Cota's sisters, Mrs.
Henry Parrot of 8. Dakota and Mrs.
Anderson of Southern California.
Mr. and Mrs. Hewitt and son and
nephew of Los Angeles visited two
days last week with Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Korner. The Kornera. former
residents of California, have enter
tained many visitors from that state
this summer.
The pear crop in this district la
being rapidly harvested with orchard-
tsta tn general appearing optimistic
over the prospective market. The
pears are reported to be of the usual
quality. Other crops In this section
receiving considerable notice from
outside districts this year are the
peach, grain and hay crops. Sweet
corn produced by one farmer grew
to a height of eight feet and bore
roasting ears 10 and 12 Inches long,
without Irrigation.
Elmer Korner left last week for Los
Angeles to spend two weeks visiting
friends.
Report that Albert Straus, master
of the Sams Valley Grange was op
posed to the Grange gas and oil co
operative was an error, as brought
out at the Grange meeting Saturday
night, wlien Mr. Straus expressed him
self as being In favor of the Grange
co-operative and had signed for mem
bershlp If the organ lra tlon went
through.
Jerome Fitrgerald and Arthur
Straus were back In their stations,
after being absent for several weeks.
The young men gave detailed ac
count of their trip esat and their at
tendance at the world's fair, which
held the interest of the' Orange
throughout.
