the First Methodist church enter
tained on Tuesday evening In Ashland

who Is leaving today lor school.
After swimming at the Twin
Plunges, the leaguers went to Lit Ma
park, where watermelon was served.
Marvin Burk, president of the Ep
worth league, acted as master of cere
monies, and Ml&s Mildred Walker,
president of the Wesley league, gave
an appropriate speech and presented
Miss Power with a lovely gift In ap
preciation of her work and service in
the two leagues.

Santa Ana Couple -Visitors
In Medrord.
Mr. and Mrs. George H. Stevens of
Santa Ana, Calif., who have been on
an extended visit east and through
Florida, are visiting here with Mrs.
Stevens' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Moore.
Mr. Stevens will continue to Seattle,
to be Joined later by Mr. Stevens. The
latter will be remembered he!e as
Theda Moore.

was honor guest on Wednesday at a
luncheon given at the Colony club
by Mrs. Alice Hollo way.
Present were Mrs. Dickenson, Miss
Livingston, Mrs. Gordon Voorhles,
Miss Margaret Hubbard and Mrs. Hol
loway. On Tuesday, Mrs. McCaskey was
hostess to eight at a '.uncheon for
Mrs. Dickenson.

and daughters, Sunday. They are
leaving en the Shasta Thursday for
return trip to their home at Welling
ton, Kansas.

a buffet luncheon and bridge, com

Dancing Program.
The dancing program, by a group
of Ted and Evelyn Schradera pupils
from Grant Pass, was presented last
evening at the Baldwin Piano ahoppe
here, with the hall filled to capacity.
Those attending were enthusiastic
over the work of the young people,
especially Betty Jones and Tommy
Dunn, five-year-old children who
were featured In tap numbers. The
costumes worn by the dancers were
also cleverly designed.
Those participating In the acrobatic,
novelty and tap numbers were Flora
dale Campbell, Xlene McClellan. Kent
and Rosalou White, Beulah Grable,
Virginia ReGester, Betty Jones and
Tommy Dunn.
Mann Family Vacations
At Oregon Coast Points.
Mr. and Mrs. John C. Mann and
daughters, Margaret Mary and Janet
have returned to Medford from a
week's vacation trip In southwestern
Oregon. They motored to Gold Beach,
spending two days at Sunset Inn, then
enjoyed the river trip to Agness. con
tinuing from there to Bandon.

Teachers Chorus
To Rehearse Friday.
Announcement has been made that
the Jackson County Teachers' chorus
will meet for rehearsal Friday morn
ing. August 17, at 10 o'clock. Miss
Harriet Baldwin, who is In charge of
the group, has sent some new music,
which is to be distributed tomorrow
morning. Plans are to be made also
for the fall institute.

A group from the Crater Lake
Union. Christian Endeavor, presented
a program on Upper Applegate Sun
day morning. Following the services
the young people enjoyed a picnic on
the river.

Blckler Opens New
Baby Beef Market
Jack Blckler, who has been man
ager of the Main and Holly Safeway
meat market for the past four years,
is opening Jack's Baby Beef Market,
located in Marsh's Grocery, tomorrow
Mr. Blckler says they will feature at
all times the finest Inspected baby
beef. The cold storage rooms, coun
ters, etc., are painted white and the
front of the store Is being remodeled
to make more room for the new mar
ket. Mr. Blckler says he believes
there la a real need for a baby beef
market In Medford. Ernest Wallace
will assist in the operation of the
business.
An angler from Wink, Texas, pulled
a 105 -pound catfish out of the Pecos
river and had several witnesses.

the Women's Christian Temperance
union organised In August, 1888, Is
being compiled, according to Mrs. Wil
liam Hill, 770 Iowa street, Ashland,
historian for the organization.
A secretary's book for the years
from 1910 to 1922. is missing, and
anyone knowing where these records
may be obtained, is requeated to get
In touch with Mrs. E. A. Aldenburg
at the Y. w. C. A. on North Bartlett
street. Mrs. D. H. Price was secretary
at that time. Mrs. Hill stated.
The history is being prepared for
the state convention to be held In
Medford during October.
An official survey has shown the
average wage of a farm hand In North
Carolina Is 414.25 per month.
