PORTLAND, Aug. 8. (AP) The
Orgon emergency relief administra
tion revealed today that 710 con
struction and reconstruction pro
jects, on which 7,630 men and women
are at work, are under way In the
80 counties of the state.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars
are going Into wages on the 710 Jobs,
with the several counties and munic
ipality providing materials in most
cases.
Multnomah county heads the list
with 136 BEE A Jobs and 3,433 work
ers. The number of Jobs In other coun
ties Includes Baker 18, Douglas 81,
Grant 8, Harney 12, Jackson 28, Jo
sephine 6, Klamath 23, Lake 1, Lane
88, Linn 24, Marlon 43, Polk 7, Til
lamook 27, Umatilla 8, Union 11.
Wallowa 1, Yamhill 27. In addition
there are SO general state projects.
Among the new projects approved
were the following : Supplying
teachers In nursery school at Klam
ath Palls for six weeks; Josephine
county food preservation program
calling for canning of 40,000 cans of
produce for relief families, one unit
to be operated at Grants Pass city ;
park with three cookers, and one
unit at Kerby ..with two cookers;
supplying teach era In nursery school
t Eugene; teachers for adult classes
at Enterprise; manufacture of cotton
mattresses In Douglas and Coos I
counties, and nursery schools at 8a- !

SALEM, Aug. 8. (AP) The manu
facture and distribution of bedding
materials from a mattress factory In
Oregon, established by the federal gov
ernment to employ persons on state
fcellef rolls, would not be subject to
irtata laws, Attorney General I. H. Van
Winkle held In an opinion handed
down here.
. Van Winkle gave as the reason for
his opinion that such materials would
be distributed free to those on relief
rolls, and therefore would not come
tinder the laws, regarding their sale.
The opinion was requested by Fred
erick D. Strieker, nocretary of the Ore
gon state board of health, following
receipt of word that the federal gov
ernment was planning the establish
ment of a mattress fnctory for relief
work In the state.

6ALEM, Aug. 8. (AP) Vouchers
for the first quarter apportionment
of the unemployment relief fund de
rived from liquor revenues, amount
ing to $'!4,oaap were being drawn for
the 36 counties today by the secre
tary of state' office. Five thousand
dollars was retained by the state re
lief committee, which allocated the
money, according to population, for
administration.
More than 8100,000 of the second
quarter funds have not yet been ap
portioned. Apportionment to the counties In
cluded Multnomah, 814,180; Mnrlon,
82.638; Lane, 83,284; Jackson, 81,380;
Klamath, 81.3M); Umatilla, 81.024;
Bnker, 8703; Denton, (604; Douglas,

BITTEN BY DOG
ARHLAND, Aug. 8. (Spl.) Robert
Bailey, IS, whs attacked and bitten by
a dog near CorkUi's mitt on Ennt Main
treet yesterday while carrying a pull
of milk toward the business district.
As he panned along the street In
front of the Alex Livingstone resl
dence, the dog leaped at him, tenrlng
his trnuser leg from hip to knee, and
inflicting several tooth marks. The
boy wsa taken to a doctor, where the
bites were treated against Infection.
The dry Is usually kept tied, but
happened to be released at the mo
ment the boy whs pawing. Settle
ment was made to the agreement of
parties involved, and the dog will not
be "tried."
